The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

There's at least one county in Virginia that has all their records because they refused to send them to the State Library in Richmond.

When the war was ending and Richmond burned, so did the library, destroying volumes of records.

ARRRRGGGGGHHHH!!! I've been shouting at the TV all day.

IT'S F'N TREE POLLEN!

It's not a mystery at all. It happens all the time. It's the most poorly researched story I've ever seen broadcast... and they even say at the bottom that it's likely tree pollen. SO WHY RUN THE STORY ALL DAY AND KEEP TELLING PEOPLE IT'S A BIG MYSTERY THEN?

"Fighting the frizzies... at eleven."

I guess mystery dust is easier to hype than pollen. What's blooming this time of year? Evergreens?

Still, could be nu-ku-lar fallout from that blast in LA a couple of weeks ago. Y'all ~are~ upwind, you know...

Yeah - all the fir trees are blooming. This is the most moronic reporting I've ever seen...

They should have asked Cisco... he has more sense than these people.

We get the southern pine trees blooming down here. I don't remember exactly which time of year but they put a yellow dusting on everything, quite annoying.

Down here, you can see cedar trees surrounded by a haze of pollen ...

And then you start sneezing ...

Who knows what goes on in a bird's brain?

Is that why they call STOOPID people, 'bird brains"?

You know, I've never watched taht movie all the way through, though I'll bet I've seen 80% of it in snippets. I do NOT remember that part, though! That's a hoot!

Country women knew how to take care of their families. My Daddy told a story about his Mama, from when he was about 8 or 9. His older brothers had gone into 'town', and he was alone with his Mama at their house out in the sticks. She heard a step on the front porch, and called out both his brothers' names. When no one answered, he said she picked up her shotgun, cocked it, and in one motion, swung the door open and let loose with that gun. She never saw who it was, but my Daddy said the guy probably didn't stop running for a mile!

she said that my grandmother always said that her mother looked just like "Ma".

Heh, Ma Joad. That woman was a terrific actress!

Jane Darwell. She had quite a career.

Her first role was in 1913. Her last was as the "Bird Lady" in Mary Poppins.

A strange dust that sometimes looks orange, huh?

Wow, that is strange. There was nothing left from the house that would give any clues, huh?

So, this has been our day off...

Wife continues with cold/sinus infection. But has strong drugs.

Luke was sick in the night on Friday and came and got in our bed. Went to a friend's for a sleepover Saturday 'cause we thought he was fine. Same thing happened last night. And let's just say it wasn't pleasant. But after it happened both times, he just got in our bed and went back to sleep.

This morning he threw up again a couple of times. So after he felt a bit better he started asking for water, then food. We told him he had to wait a while. Of course, he's seven, so he was asking every couple of minutes. I'm at the desk working, wife is in the other room working.

Nana finally said "go in there and ask your Mama, she'll get you something."

I let her know rather, um, forcefully, that I was not being cruel, I was giving him some time until we knew he could handle it.

That said, we decided at the last minute not to do the Monday night ballroom dancing class we had signed up for. Lukes' still not well. Wife's still not well, and we just didn't want to go.
