The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

It was another day where there were three or four people hogging the dressing rooms, and I gave up trying to get in. One gal had literally about fifteen things to try on...most of them things like shorts that said stuff like "luscious" on the...um...back.

... Might as well say "skanky", IMO.

Amen!

I dunno what if anything I'll do for a garden here this next year. I could probably grow a garden OK if I set the sprinkler every day...otherwise it's just too dry in the summer!

But marigolds and pansies and petunias did great. If I can find more plants like them, I can at least do flowers.

Cosmos' are pretty bombproof. Zinnias, too.

I didn't have good luck starting either of them outdoors from seeds...but I did have a few Cosmos show up suddenly at the end of the year. Maybe I'll buy actual plants this time around.

And it's *just* possible that a few of the bulbs I planted survived the dog's handiwork. I'm not sure he dug every one up. Maybe I'll have a few surprises in early spring.

Lets, see - Nasturtiums can take abuse and they're easy to grow. Poppies seem to be very popular this year and they're adaptable to dry. Liatris is my current favorite no-maintenance flower.

Can you start indoors and transplant out?

I gave up on melons and squashes. Too many pests. So I'm going to pass on them for a year or two to see if I can get the bugs to die off. Urgh.

The ones I can't stand are the ones like that they make for little girls.

Might as well put up a big neon sign that says "Hey Pedophiles! Over here!"

'scuse my language, but some sperm and egg donors are just morons.

I don't really have a good place indoors to start plants. I think I'll just take my chances with the super cheap huge flats o' plants. I had really good luck with those last year. I had petunias coming out my ears...they were tiny little plants with only a few flowers, but ALL of them made it and spread. They went nuts!

Yeah...they're inappropriate for anyone, but it's almost evil to let little girls wear 'em.

It turned out GREAT! I used two small boxes of sugar free lime jello, a regular thing of cream cheese, a regular sized container of sugar free cool whip and a third of a cup of lemon juice, because I forgot the lime juice.

I made it per instructions and poured it into a ground pecan crust.

Steve loved it and so did my eldest (very picky) jedi!

A great dessert. Thanks for doing the research!

I have been wondering...with what little I had to do with cleaning up my shop, which was back-breaking and nasty...I wondered how you must be faring at the Ridge.
