GSXR's haven't weighed close to 500lbs since EVER! The1000's are now under 400lbs, but at their heaviest, the 1100 weighed in at 430lbs.

It still makes my neck hairs stand up when I see a kid on a rice-rocket wearing shorts, T-shirt, and tennies with his girl friend perched way up on back wearing heels, low cuts (gotta show the tatoo afterall), and a T-top - both with full face, flamed & striped, helmets on - sliding in and out of traffic and generally oblivious.

What tears me up is to see them sitting at a stoplight, and right next to them is some gun on a cruiser wearing engineer's boots and full leathers, with a soup bowl on his head.

Did he have a motorcycle license? Not just an auto license, an full motorcycle endorsement.

Helllllooooooo, a Motorcycle endorsement IS a motorcycle LICENSE!!! California has M1 and M2 endorsements. M1 is unlimited, M2 is cc limited.

I don't think your comment was meant for me. However, there is a brotherhood out there and most of it is made up of good folks at all ends of the economic and social levels.

But, there are also the crooks, dope heads, wannabes and nut cases.

To save me responding to you last post separately....LOL, mine was my dads 53 Buick, the "Green Tank". I miss her dearly.

Nothing makes it stop faster than going from 80 to 0 in an instant ... like the Darwin candidate in this article did.

How was it for you?

Until one hit a road grader at 100mph+.

And it gave him an "F."

It can be handy when riding in wet weather

You just took away my second question. Thanks for all the info. I will try to be more vigilant, but, as you've said, reaction time is critical - if someone doing triple-digits is closing on me, I'm much more likely to just freeze in whatever lane position I'm in. Stay safe - rubber side down.

"Car drivers have nothing with which to compare the acceleration rate of a large cc sport bike. Therefore, it's the ability to plan moves ahead of time, and not have the elements of the equation change afterwards. If it does, you are extremely limited in options, and most likely doomed."

100% correct.

Hey now, I have a cube.

I also have a leather bound 5th Edition (1919) copy of Machinery's Handbook on my bookshelf with the tech manuals.

"...just put your turn signal on and let them pass. "

Please leave your turn signals OFF unless you are actually setting up your own maneuver.

"You hate motorcycles? Or do you really hate idiots who do ridiculous and dangerous things on motorcycles?"

Motorcycles are inherently dangerous, no matter how good you are, or how careful you are. Enclosed, four wheeled vehicles are much more forgiving.

I would condone motorcycles for military necessity, or if someone's life were at stake.

Otherwise, it's just foolish to assume that much risk. Unless, perhaps, the chancre mechanics give you six weeks to live.

Last time I was told I had a potentially fatal illness, I started smoking cigars again...and I inhaled.

Motorcycles are inherently dangerous,

More people are injured taking a shower every year. What do you propose we do about THAT?

"More people are injured taking a shower every year."

Before I'd agree that you had a point, I'd have to see data on severity of injuries, fatalities, and age of the injured.

"What do you propose we do about THAT?"

Don't know exactly what your point is supposed to be, since I didn't propose that we "do anything" about motorcycles.

However, since I was a boy I've thought America should build more rational bathing facilities. Living in Japan just solidified that opinion.

The elderly might be safer if they stepped two inches down into the shower, rather than having to climb into what we laughingly call a "bathtub" in this country. A little non-skid and handrails might help, too.

That said, I absolutely oppose any regulations requiring these things.
