A Suzuki racing bike screaming at 80 mph in a 25-mph zone slammed into Gigliotti on Oct. 4 as she was leaving her job at Long Beach City College, igniting a fireball inside her Ford Escort.
"It is not uncommon to see these kinds of accidents with motorcycles, particularly high-powered super bikes," said Raymond Dennison, the Long Beach detective who investigated the crash. "The whole function is to go as fast as they can."

How about the same for people who fail to yield resulting in the death of someone on a motorcycle....?
No, I'm not exactly holding my breath, here.
heheheh, good one.
Suddenly there was a whoosh and a pressue envelope...followed by two more. We were passed by 3 guys on rice rockets doing AT LEAST 120. It scared the hell out of us...we never saw them approach and they were nearly silent.
About 20 miles up the road we saw two bikes pulled over...frantic. One of the riders apparently blew a rear tire and went off the road. It wasn't pretty.
"Kawasaki Ninja ZX-11
Yoshimura Pipe
Lectron Flat slide carbs (44mm)
Shaved head to get 12:1 compression. "
I have a ZX12R, and I still give in to the guilty pleasure of an 80 or 90 mph wheelie pass around some slowpoke, and I'm almost 50 years old now. But I never do any "ridin dirty" without leathers, boots and full coverage helmet. I want all my pieces in one bag.
Oh, and I have one speeding ticket in my whole driving career, and that was for going 100+ in my truck. I had just gotten it, and wanted to see if the motor really shuts off at 100. It does.
Yep. Imo, you have described another phenomenon which partly accounts for the increase in fatality rates--one riders have to correct.
Can't yield to something you never see. Idiots that fly on bikes or cars like this on public roads are asking to die, hell they are begging for it. Whatever funds this maniac on this bike had should go to the victims family.
This guy was going 80mph in a 25 mph zone and you defend him by calling the article anti bike bias ? She could easily have stopped and looked and seen nothing coming, then, pulled out in front of him considering the speed he was traveling. His actions are indefensible. How old are you 13?
I'll let you reason it out.
Say the estimated speed is 100mph which is 1.67 miles per minute. This further breaks down to 146.96 feet per second. You are on a low posted speed city street...what would you reasonably expect of a vehicle in the distance?
Oh, but he was only doing 80 mph. Okay then, 117.30 fps.
I have to disagree. I'll add that it depends not only on the road, but the bike.
Clingmans Dome Road, Little River Road, Hwy. 441, Newfound Gap Road, all in the Smokies, are "ridable at 80", but 80 can nevertheless be classified as "screaming", especially if you're trying to throw a 1000+ cc flatliner through those curves.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen one of the "fashion boys" on their superbikes navigating that road with anything other than comic ineptitude. Heck, old fashioned Yamaha 350 and 400 2-strokes and Ducati Desmos (of which there are still quite a few in and around Knoxville) handle those roads better.
At what speed does your brain shut off?
My reference to my one speeding ticket (on a bike) is relevant simply to show that one can be a biker without being an idiot.
Many traffic are intended to generate revenue, but not most. You're too emotional about this.
A killjoy is someone who prevents another from experiencing joy. I've not prevented you from doing anything. If joy is riding 180 MPH on an open road, you need a new perspective.
If your stunt (most guys are past their perception of invincibility by 26) was not arrogant and stupid, how would you describe it, now that you are older and, presumably, wiser?
And when you die, eternity: smoking or non-smoking?
There is NOTHING in this world funnier than watching a harley "rider" drop his bike. I saw two during Biketoberfest this year.
I just found out this year that they (HD) made motorcycles. For the longest time I thought they just sold T-shirts, patches, coasters, shot glasses, leather vests, patches, bottle openers, clocks, patches, stickers, and (lest I forget) patches.
I resemble that remark!
Ugh! Not only would there have been flames, but there also would have been battery acid all over the place.
... for WAY too much money.
"At what speed does your brain shut off?"
You sound like someone, if around me, who would let their mouth get them into more trouble than they could deal with.
ok, so where do you stand on guns? if he shot her, is it the guns fault or the shooters fault?
if he smacked her with a hammer, is it his fault or the hammer's?
if it was an eeeeeevil SUV, is it his fault or the SUV's?
i'm not defending his actions. guy was a squid, but that is NOT the bikes fault.
well a middle aged beer drinkin bellieless biker here
no tatoos, piercins' or brains
My guess is that he is a biker that thinks everyone should get the heck out of his way when he speeds on the road because he is "special" and should get to do whatever the heck he wants on public roads. They make me as mad as hell. Why? Because of all the people they endanger with their stupidity.
