WELCOME RACE FANS

Welcome to the offseason withdrawal thread which is here for everyone to post racing news during the time between Nov 20, 2006 and Feb 10, 2007 when The Budweiser Shootout begins the new season.

As always this thread is dedicated to our military men and women serving our country. A big thank you to all of them. Hugs and prayers to those who have been wounded and are recuperating at Walter Reed, Bethesda and Brooke Army Med Center. And, to those combat field medics who care for them - THANK YOU!!

Wonderful pic WCG! Jr's standing pose reminds me a whole lot of his dad. Now if I can find that picture...

I'm really looking forward to 2007. I think DEI is going to really kick butt. Truex and his guys have finally found their groove. Lookout for Paul Menard too. I've got a good feeling about the upcoming year.

A quick New York story
I went to the NASCAR/NMPA Myers Brothers Awards luncheon today at Cipriani's, a restaurtant in a wonderful old building on 42nd Street just across the street from Grand Central Terminal.
Before today, I would have written Grand Central Station. That's what I always thought it was called. When my friends and I used to run in and out of the house when we were kids, my mom would say, "Hey, this is NOT Grand Central Station." Well, come to find out it's Grand Central Terminal. Says so right there, carved into the building and everything.
Anyway, I was seated at the same table as Jeff Burton and he told us this story.
On Wednesday, he had occasion to be in Saks Fifth Avenue. I think he said his wife, Kim, was shopping but it was a big table and I can't be sure that's right. Anyway, he said he remembered he needed a couple of pair of black socks.
"So I take these two pair of socks over the register and the guy goes, 'That'll be $246.'" Burton looked around to see who the clerk was talking to. There was nobody else there.
"I said, 'There has to be some mistake,'" Burton said.
No mistake, the clerk said. The socks were 100 percent cashmere. They were $120 per pair -- $60 a sock.
"I said, 'Well let me ask you, where are the plain old cotton socks?'" Burton said.

You mean I don't get that one, too?
Johnson drew a few chuckles when, after picking up several awards, he remained on the stage during the presentation of the Chex Most Popular Driver Award.

It wasn't until a female awards presenter gently led Johnson away that he realized this was one award he didn't win in 2006.

That honor went to Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the fourth consecutive year.

Cool pic........Jr is left handed so he may cross his left leg where Sr crossed the right. Just a guess, but they stand and do a lot of things the same. Sometimes I see pics of him in the garage area looking very serious and Sr like.

Michigan and suburban Chicago for the Cup boys, Milwaukee for the Busch and Trucks.

So much for the short winter; we got walloped in southeast Wisconsin and points south. Now, we're all getting the cold.

Matts on now, he says he would rather go in through the back door.doesn't like all the cameras and stuff.

He went to his first Broadway show and may not go again.

Katie is uncomfortable being all dressed up tonight too. She had a nice black dress on.....so far all the wives have on black. DeLana has on dark gray, she and Kevin are on now.
Her dress is Vera Wang!!
