WELCOME RACE FANS

Welcome to the offseason withdrawal thread which is here for everyone to post racing news during the time between Nov 20, 2006 and Feb 10, 2007 when The Budweiser Shootout begins the new season.
As always this thread is dedicated to our military men and women serving our country. A big thank you to all of them. Hugs and prayers to those who have been wounded and are recuperating at Walter Reed, Bethesda and Brooke Army Med Center. And, to those combat field medics who care for them - THANK YOU!!

Perfect!
Lots of Black Ice on the highways tonight and snow down to 1500 feet. Warming up tomorrow.
I don't watch much TV so I haven't seen any of the NASCAR Kings and Queens strut their stuff and I doubt I will watch Friday night. It's a hell of a lot more exciting sniping for items on eBay...

We're at a comfy 73 at the moment, but that will drop starting tomorrow.
Been busy at work. That's what I get for taking half of last week off and eating turkey. LOL

Junior makeover
Dale Earnhardt Jr. ended his deal with Gillette recently, and predictably he is starting to develop a Tony Stewart-like approach to shaving. He arrived in New York with a beard, which was trimmed to goatee status before Wednesday's media functions.
"I just got out of my deal, so I can get my goatee going whenever I want now," Earnhardt said. "I had a full beard up until [Tuesday], and they said I couldn't wear a full beard."
Earnhardt said his awards ceremony speech is 180 words long, and that he wrote it himself. His personality makes him a natural at writing, and he said that the most fun he has during the week is producing his weekly show on XM Radio..........

The NASCAR season is over? I didn't even know it had begun. :-) NASCAR ignores Minnesota, so I ignore them. Michigan is as close as they get, isn't it?
Condolences to all the fans though. At least you have a short off-season. By the time it starts again the Super Bowl will be a memory, the days will be getting noticably longer, pitchers and catchers will be about ready to report to spring training, and winter will be starting to lose its grip on those of us in the Great White North.
Here's to a safe and short winter for all of us!

Good luck on the short winter. :) We are down to about 30 degrees here in Texas toight.
I'm sorry Nascar has not included Minnesota, but if they had a race in every state there would only be two weeks off.....actually there would be no weeks off if you include the shootout Daytona week and Lowes....we would need an extra week in the year.
But, Minnesota is the home of General Mills and Chex cereal and they sponsor the MPD awards every year.........Here is their winner this year.
MINNEAPOLIS (November 30, 2006) NASCAR fans across the nation logged on to www.mostpopulardriver.com and with the click of a mouse, voted Dale Earnhardt, Jr. the most popular driver in 2006. Earnhardt, Jr. was presented with the NASCAR NMPA Chex® Most Popular Driver award today at the NASCAR Myers Brothers Award Luncheon in New York City.
After receiving the award today, this marks the fourth consecutive year the North Carolina native has won the prestigious award. After his selection in 2005, Earnhardt, Jr. joined drivers Bill Elliott and Richard Petty as the only drivers to win four-straight.
"I want to thank General Mills, Chex and the National Motorsports Press Association for this award, said Dale Earnhardt, Jr. It's a great honor, because it's the only award in our sport voted on by the fans. I share this award with my fans, because it is as much theirs as it is mine. I've always been grateful for their loyalty and support. Words can't say how much I appreciate it."
Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Throughout the race season, race fans logged on to www.mostpopulardriver.com and voted for their favorite driver. A total of 2,835,277 votes were cast this year, with Earnhardt, Jr. receiving 1,172,195 votes. http://www.race2win.net/wc/06/11/dempd.html

Darn..........
Martin talked to Dale Jr about Busch ride: Mark Martin told Sirius Speedway (MRN/Sirius Satellite Radio) Monday that he spoke to Dale Earnhardt, Jr., about a possible, part-time Busch Series ride with Earnhardts JR Motorsports in 2007. Martin, who has already inked deals to drive the Ginn Racing/US Army Nextel Cup Chevrolet next season, as well as a Craftsman Truck for Wood Brothers/JTG Racing, said sponsor conflicts prevented the deal with Earnhardt from coming to fruition. I talked to Dale Junior about sharing a Busch car with him and a couple of other guys next season, said Martin. We both wanted to do it, but we couldnt get the details figured out. The Army and the Navy (sponsors of Earnhardts #88 Busch car) were kinda like oil and water, and we couldnt figure out a way to make it work. Martin said he could run for as many as four different teams next season on the Cup, Busch and Truck Series.(MRN/Sirius Satellite Radio)(11-28-2006)
