Nick Pope is a British government official who has worked at the Ministry of Defence since joining in 1985. He had many different postings and had undertaken a series of jobs within the Department, including work in the Joint Operations Centre during the Gulf War, where he was a briefer in the Air Force Operations Room.

He has also been involved in work on the crises in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is a Senior Executive Officer, which is a civilian grade equivalent to the military rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

I don't think he's been in on the most secret stuff. But he clearly, imho, knows quite enough to shut the naysayers up . . . in terms of what he knows compared to what they know/don't know.

Of course, naysaying is such a chronic addiction, nothing but their own abduction for an extended stay at Zeta Reticulai would likely shut some of them up.
