Dear Dismayed Conservatives (barf alert DUmmie editorial)

Posted on 11/08/2006 11:51:34 AM PST by MetaCon

Dear dismayed conservatives:

I hereby make these promises to you.

We will protect your lives and livelihoods.

We will listen to and respect your beliefs.

We will never try to force you to change your religion, sexual orientation, or first language.

We will do our best to reduce the number of abortions in our country.

We will have no tolerance for corruption and cronyism, even in our own party.

ESPECIALLY in our own party.

We will never tell you that you are unpatriotic.

We will never tell you that your opinion doesn't count.

We will never waste your lives for power.

We will hold our leaders to a high ethical standard and when they succumb to lust for power, WE WILL HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE.

If we forget this, please, please, please, remind us.

We need you to do this. You are America as much as we are. Let's go.

Hey.. didn't Clinton commit troops to the Balkans?
And is there an end in sight for their stay there?

LOL, yer bad. :)

No, I'm willing to actually accept the message in the spirit of good will that it was sent. I would like to avoid an American civil war, and our sides have been relentlessly polarizing to the point that I could see no other way out of the morass than mutual violence.

But I hate bugs and hot/cold weather extremes, so I was hoping we might be able to come together with more civility and mutual respect. If they -- and we -- are willing to acknowledge that we are Americans who merely have very divergent views on how to conduct America, then we have a shot at working together.

Suppose for a moment, my friend, that this is a Congressional Staffer trying to get a sense of the far-right. If we all pile on with bitterness, then he or she might issue a note that there's no point -- full speed ahead to destroy and sabatoge these rightwingers or even the very country.

I'd rather that sort of message not be delivered. There is room for working together with a fellow countryman, no matter how much your views might differ.

They will have to concede some stuff. We might consider meeting them at a halfway mark. It's the adult thing to do, or we can behave as children, self-will run riot.

Conservatives are proud to be called what we are. Why are liberals ashamed to admit they are liberals and embarrassed to be who they are?

There is certainly nothing progressive about their agendas.

No, there isn't. And it's a damn shame, too. Bush is still firmly attached to the idea of permanent bases in Iraq. We democrats, of course, do NOT want to keep our fighting men and women over there.

I don't know how long you've been hanging out at DU, but if you had any sense at all, you wouldn't be there. The ONLY people with sense that SHOULD be there are the Lousy Freeper Trolls that expose how MOST of the people on that website feel.

I'd like to see what that original post would have been if the Dems would have lost again! Everything is just HUNKY-DORY now that with the help of the UNBIAS media, the Dems have lied their way into power again!

Most of the lunatics at DU believe the media is right-wing, which is INSANE! Just look at all those positive Republican stories running over the last month! WOW!!

It does serve our interests to have a permanent base there.
Just as it served our interests to have them in Germany after WWII.
And Japan as well.
Strange how Dems don't recall how many casualties there were in the opening days of WWII.
We've had LESS casualties in this war in all it's length so far than in a comparable amount of time in any previous war.
Inconvenient for you guys.

Democrats would rather coddle terrorists, ignore them, and do nothing about them.

You are really going off the Unintentional Comedy scale here. I advise you to stop before you make a complete ass of yourself.

Your party leader spent the last three months calling the President of the United States a liar, a failure, a dangerous man, a racist, the biggest threat to world peace, incompetent, and to top it all off she called our leadership a "freak show." She has not moved to remove William Jefferson from his office, she said nothing about Patrick Kennedy repeatedly driving drunk and endangering lives, and she happliy marches in parades with NAMBLA leaders while pathetically accusing Republicans of covering up for gay pedophiles. She will be the wealthiest Speaker of the House in history, earning millions on the backs of illegal migrant farm workers, while she continually derides Republicans as the party of the rich. She whines about a culture of corruption while she received one of the largest fines ever for campaign finance violations.

Pardon me for not being impressed.

Neville was always worth a laugh or three.
The man who single-handedly lost most of Europe before somebody with stones took over.
Expect his ideological heirs to do the same.

Goldwater? You know, like my cousin Barry? I've learned a lot from him, and my grandfather, and my father. We're all like-minded.

If you're claiming Goldwater as a moderate, then your current so called moderates aren't.

Read some more about him. What he did in Arizona, my home state. He was demonized, but he was the real deal.

Lies.

We will protect your lives and livelihoods.

By raising taxes and confiscating guns?

We will listen to and respect your beliefs.

By prohibiting prayer at schools and football games? By banning the pledge of allegiance because it contains "under God"?

We will never try to force you to change your religion, sexual orientation, or first language.

Forcing promiscuity and homosexuality on our children? Your ATLA lawyers will sue the hell out of us for not having Spanish-only warnings, instructions, terms-of-use etc. (And quit equivocating me with immigrants coming here needing to learn the language of their new country).

We will have no tolerance for corruption and cronyism, even in our own party.

ESPECIALLY in our own party.

Please tell me you didn't write that with a straight face.

We will never tell you that you are unpatriotic.

You must not read the posts at DU.

We will never tell you that your opinion doesn't count.

You have ALWAYS dismissed dissent as racist, mysoginist, homophobic, fascist or whatever catch-phrase.

We will never waste your lives for power.

I waste a lot of my time working just to pay taxes.

Cute, trying to sound like you're taking the high-road while getting in a few jabs.

If you are a traditional liberal, I have no beef with you other than agreeing to disagree sometimes. If you are a socialist, if you think communism is worth trying again (but this time we'll do it right!) if you are a moonbat (ie you think the Bush admin is responsible for 9/11) then you are my enemy. Go choke on some tofu.

Here's a fellow I'd answer directly:

RedCloud:...."We also expect equal time on all your many radio stations and a two year reminder on each station of why people need to hear the other side of the story...."

Mr. Cloud, the market will decide how much equal time you get. Simply open up a radio network that specializes in liberal viewpoints, one somewhat like Air America.

Either that, or perhaps we will offer you equal time on the radio shows. Then we, too, can get equal time to present a non-liberal point of view on the broadcast networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN.

Either option is a good middle-ground on which we can agree.

I have been to DU long ago, twice to be exact. I behaved myself and was posted politely. I was banned twice for respectfully disagreeing. I didn't get nasty, I didn't get sarcastic, I simply disagreed and they simply banned me.

I read many posts before I ever tried to post a response, either time. I can honestly swear with my hand on the Bible, I never read a moderate response, nor as best I remember, read a post sans a multitude of four letter words.

If you don't want to work together with the Democrats to end the war in Iraq, aren't you enabling the terrorists?

Pretty sleazy spin even for a Democrat. Your crew wants to cut and run. To properly finish the job in Iraq it will probably take years. But it was just too tempting of a target for your party, a party devoid of ideas, to pass up. Your team needed something to rally around, something to motivate them. Socialism is a proven failure so you had to attack Iraq.

Due to this campaign you're leaders can not stay to finish the job. They will cut and run, maybe on a timetable, but they will abandon the fledgling demoracy. Another Saddam will take over in Iraq. Then the terrorists have won.

I think his point was that lots of folks at DU would look at someone with his positions today as RIGHT of moderate.
