My GOP rep was safely reelected. The only loss that really hurts is Santorum(and Allen if he goes down). The rest were RINOs. As the Spectator noted this morning, maybe the GOP needed a good kick in the pants to gets it back in gear.
gets=get
I hate too that Talent lost...and in that way. Horrible!
Long Day In Montana?
An aide to Sen. Conrad Burns (R) tells the Hotline this morning that Burns has no plans to concede the MT Senate race anytime soon. The aide said that 21K absentee ballots have yet to be counted and other counties still havent finished canvassing their regular returns. Democratic officials are confident that Jon Tester (D) will win.

My fear, Two Thirds, is that the next Republican to run for Santorum's seat in 6 years will run to the middle.
Some other very staunch Republicans lost as well so I think we'll see those future candidates run to the middle as well. It's very hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube once people get used to the socialism lite the Democrats will bring.
How many Governorships did we lose?
We lost 27 or 28 House seats; the House was the most conservative branch of Congress and was our check against the almost entirely RINO Senate.
What this does to our military and the WOT is incalculable. The demoralization, the probable pull out when the Rats refuse to fund the war, the loss of face among our allies who will not trust us in the future, as well as the fear of brave Iraqi's right now is all a horrible, historic defeat for the United States. The jihadist are very happy people right now.
It's historically accurate to say that mid-term elections in a president's second term typically show a change in Congress, but not during wartime and not to a group of anti-American haters who don't have a plan.
And the investigations if not outright impeachment of the president is going to make the next two years miserable for the one brave man in politics - the President.
I was afraid we needed another week for the movement toward Republicans to be fully effective, but I really didn't think we'd see such a huge turnaround in the House and it doesn't bode well for the weenie mindset of the average American to prove Osama bin Laden right -- that we just can't take body bags.
Well, after 4 hrs of sleep and numerous phone calls already this morning I'm about ready to head out to pick up yard signs.
The Democrat Sweep has changed the political landscape, but every one of us knows that political movements ebb and flow. And we will come back.
We are down and OUT, but we aren't gone!
When Iowa Governor-elect Chet Culver made his victory speech last night, he got the largest ROAR when he said "We're going to legalize Embryonic Stem Cell Research". It remains to be seen whether or not the public will stand for it. I fear they will.
As the minority, it will be our job to hold their stinkin' feet to the fire. I'm up to it. And I know the rest of you are, as well.
Honestly, shouldering the responsibility of the majority is not for the timid or weak of heart. I pray that Republicans left standing in the Statehouses across the country and in Congress have the stomach to force the Democrats to stand up and vote (alone) for each item on their platform. We MUST play the roll of the Loyal Opposition. If we don't, we deserve to be in the minority.
There are still a lot of gutless Republicans out there, so it's going to be difficult for Conservatives to force the Dem's to show their hand.
I know I'm rambling, and I apologize, but I really needed to spill my guts before I pull my combat boots on and go back out there for the fight.
It's going to be a very long 2 years here in Iowa.
Roughly 1,000 votes counted.
Roughly 850 went to Webb.
With 99.80% in...
Allen: (-0.29%)
Vote Deficit: 6,859
Votes outstanding: 5,000 (approx.)
Estimated mandatory recount margin: Less Than 11,826
IG, your fears are also my fears. The pubs were weak in the face of a hostile media. I can't imagine how they'll muster the fortitude to stand up to a hostile majority.
It's just all been so unnecessary. THAT's the real shame.
Do you think Mehlman is polishing up his resume?
onyx, your intentions to take a break from posting are making me re-think my reluctance about this upcoming road trip we are to start out on in a couple of days.
Except for seeing our daughter I wasn't really looking forward to it. But perhaps, it's good timing after all.
I'll be around FR off and on while gone, btw.
Thank you for all you've done, Iowa Granny.
South Dakotans rejected a toughest-in-the-nation law that would have banned virtually all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest - defeating one of the most high-profile state measures facing voters Tuesday.
The outcome was a blow to conservatives, although they prevailed in five other states where voters approved constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage. Among them was Wisconsin, where gay-rights activists had nursed hopes of engineering the first defeat of such a ban.
Five states approved increases in their minimum wage, while Arizona passed four measures targeting illegal immigrants, including one making English the state's official language.
Hi, prairie. You have a safe trip and I'll freepmail later.
I've curtailed my freeping since we returned from CT in late September and I think I will curtail it even further for a while and focus even more on my sister, parents and friends.
It's clear that big media won the day when Republicans refused to fight the media lies. By this time in 2006, I had really hoped that internet web sites like FR would be more powerful in getting the truth out, but the truth is we like posting and arguing among ourselves more than most of us have really involved ourselves in activism.
they are going to do to my son, what they did to my husband during VietNam.
Please assure her...not by any of us... I understand how she can feel that way...but please mention that we won't do that!
She told me, they are going to do to my son, what they did to my husband during VietNam.
A break will serve us well.
We have been overwhlemed and the negative posters are running wild. They will tire.
I am going to try to limit my posting to this thread and the DOse.
DOW just tanked 44 points in the first minute.
I got that info from Greg Garrison's show on the radio, which had Chris Horner on. He is from the Conservative Enterprise Institute and said he fully expects to be subpoenaed by the House and is loaded for bear when they call him.
Also, Horner's opinion is that Pelosi will not try anything radical right away, because they are looking to 2008. I don't think he is right, because the far left thinks they won this and will be pushing for everything they want.
I am absolutely NOT turning on the TV except for the President's news conference, and will turn it off immediately after.
I also will watch it on C-SPAN, because that way I won't give Fox any ratings.
After today, I am finished watching the news until the end of this month. We are watching his financial channel because he wants to see how smart he was for selling yesterday. I think I will ask him to buy me a diamond bracelet. :) (Just kidding, of course).
I am not going to watch POTUS because he is always gracious and I am not in the mood for gracious today.
Because the stock market is for the rich pubs and the dems are for the little people. So, it's only the rich who are losing. /S
As I said earlier, the yahoos in unions don't even understand that their retirement/401k, etc. depend on the market.
