OH :)
G' evening everybody,
I've read all the posts since I left this thread this morning to get some sleep and I can only say I share your sentiments.
My TV reamins OFF, and my husband told me about Rummy and about Burns.
Simply put, it is quite obvious that nobody and no party can survive 365, 24/7 bashing by our MSM in cohorts with the democrats. They have reaped what they have sown.
On a rather disturbing note, I came back to find my FR mail box jammed packed with mail from dear FRiends who were mistreated last night on one or more threads by nasty posters who have come out of the woodwork to rant and post gleefully. Regrettably, one sweet FRiend has pulled her monthly and will only "lurk" here for the unforeseen future. I know that some of the threads were brutal last night, and I and some others did do battle with the worst of the worst, and I thought I would give that up, but now I see I probably can't, but I am going to take 2 weeks off from FR while my daughter is here.
I am glad Common Tater made the point about RINOs and INOs. Fools here do not understand that RINOs VOTE anf RINOs elect RINOs and we should be grateful to have RINOs in office who give us 70 - 80 percent of what we want.
The "true or real" conservatives will never get their perfect candidates elected to statewide or nationwide offices. Gerrymandered congressional districts are their limit; a fact that should be obvious to all, but it's not.
Oh well, I have had my say, I am going to watch for the Dose and see if there ANY of my pings I am up to answering. :)
Good. That'll keep us both busy and sane over the next 2 years. Tune it all out is the direction I am heading. I went through too much garbage with clinton and drove my family nuts.... Don't need that again.
Virginia is now counting "provisional ballots".
>>provisional ballots".
Why??
What's your gut say?
Excuse me . To me, any man's gut, so you put it, means what's to eat? I'm more interested in the Chair's brain. ;-)
Rachel Ray is making Tex-Mex tomato soup.
We lost.
Too much ground to make up. Don't think there are really any real votes in the provisionals. Or if there are, it's only a handful. We've got to make up 7,400 votes. Just ain't there.
:..(..
Well, after listening to Sen. Kyl and hearing some backbone speaking I'm feeling better. He wants to be Conference Chairman. McConnell most likely Minority Leader. Ensign and Alexander are other likely R leaders, but can't quite remember their posts.
Focusing on '08 is the deal. We cannot afford to lose anymore or the WH.
No doubt the President is working along these lines too, altho today was awkward & difficult for him no doubt about it. Naturally he got no help from the media at the press conference. They make me ill with their disrespect for the man..
Maybe the President's olive branches to the Dem Majorities will force them into a false sense of security, and they'll revert to Looney Mode which they managed to conceal for most of the past campaign season.
I think the President and his party in Congress need to work VERY closely together to get this turned around, and that means SEN. McCain, please shut up, and put your ego aside! Slim hope of that, probably.
What gets me upset is how clueless so many here on FR are about the electorate. "Just talk conservative values and we will win!" Suuuure we will, when the media trashes conservatives non-stop.
We need to face the fact that the electorate is NOT conservative. How could they be, when they have been educated by liberal NEA members and college professors, the media portrays conservatives as evil, and the Rats promise free stuff every election?
What we need is a prolonged PR campaign to promote conservative ideas, explaining the benefits in easy-to-understand terms.
We also need a conservative news network.
1. No automatic recounts, they have to be requested. (I was misinformed previously, sorry.)
2. If the margin between the winner and loser is less than 0.5%, a requested recount will be paid for by the government in all cases.
3. If the margin between the winner and loser between 0.5 and 1.0%, the government will pay the costs if the recount changes the result, otherwise the requestor must pay.
4. No recounts above 1.0 percent separation.
5. Recounts may not be requested until after the election is certified.
6. Virginia elections will be certified on Nov. 27.
7. The candidate requesting a recount must do so within 10 days of the election being certified.
Well - off to have my drink a little early tonight. This election could turn me into an alcoholic but luckily go into the hospital tomorrow so will "dry out".
But I don't think I'm that far from the mainstream either.
I still say the country is center-right. That IS the mainstream..
There were conservative Dems who won yesterday in a few places. McClintock did pretty well in CA for Pete's sake! If the electorate is presented, appealingly, with center right principles, there's a strong possibility of success.
We do have to break thru to people who believe that for example abortion should be limited, and then turn around & vote for candidates who believe the opposite. Too many disconnects!
You are right: we need an ongoing program of education in conservative principles, and then each election season, we need to focus better, find better candidates and make the most of our opportunity at that critical time to get folks attention.
AND right now, we're not talking about "merely " soc. sec. reform or minimum wage issues, but our very existence which is at stake.
If you ever reach total enlightenment while drinking beer, I bet it makes beer shoot out your nose.
I'd be better off today if election season fell during the summer...
The reason I get upset about this is because my family is spread across the politcal spectrum. Brother and one sister are democrats, as wellas my daughter, my son and I and husband are conservative, and two sisters are swing voters. I SEE what happens when something happens like Limbaugh's flap with Michael Fox. Poor politics, that, and it cost us some votes.
Although I don't care for it, I believe that conservatives need to cultivate the "warm, fuzzy" persona. I believe that is what the President was trying to do with his "compassionate conservative" idea. Unfortunately, a lot of conservatives took offense at that rather than understanding what he was trying to do.
All I know is that my reliable conservative state is becoming more liberal, and it is very hard to buck the trend. I really don't have a good answer, but that's the way things are here. I expect Daniels to be defeated in 2008, barring something undforeseen.

Other end.
