So you open the can and just set it in CONDENSED MILK (!) in a sauce pan and simmer it, the can says 35 minutes. You're saying the condensed milk never touches the treacle? You must have to open the can right? Because otherwise it would burst?

I was using the condensed milk as an example many people boil a tin of condensed milk to make caramel.
The sponge pudding is the same you boil it in water, not sure if you pierce the tin or not it will tell you on the tin if you do. With condensed milk I do not think you pierce the tin from memory but you have to make sure that the saucepan does not boil dry or then the tin will explode.
I think the safest way if you are not used to boiling tins is to open the tin and microwave the contents again I would think it tells you how on the side of the tin.
I have never thought of the Heinz logo as looking like a pineapple but I suppose it does a bit - that is where the 57 symbol used to be.
