When I said transferring was a type of "cut and run" policy, I was not referring to mounting an army and marching into Durham but, of course, you knew that. What I meant was that staying at the school and fighting for change instead of making it someone else's problem is a lot more courageous in my book than transferring.
I still don't think you get it when it comes to today's colleges. Not everyone wants to or is suited to go to Hillsdale. My children were not. Duke is a fine university with exceptional faculty and 88 exceptions. Do you think I'm happy about my alma mater still employing Ward Churchill? Hardly! But would it solve the problem if all the students left CU? Hardly! All that does is punish the remaining faculty, the students and the employees of the school.
LB is right, also , in that there are lines around the block to go to a school like Duke. the year my son was excepted they took about 2100 out of about 26,000 applications. We could take our ball and go home, yes, but what on earth good would that do? It reminds me of the people who state here on FR regularly that they aren't going to vote because the Republicans haven't been doing x or y. Great! so you want Democrats then? It sounds strong to "stand on principle" but often it's just pointless.

It is not a matter of courage. It is a matter of what will have an effect and the safety of one's child.

You apparently think an undergraduate student can have an impact while I think undergraduate studends transferring will give Duke and other colleges an incentive to reform. You notice random violence in other bigger places, I notice Durham is the only place I know of right now where the police and DA seek to give your college student a criminal record and Durham is hardly free of random crime.

This is becomes an empirical matter, but I have quite happy with my priors. Data could convince me I am wrong, but I dont expect those results.

I still don't think you get it when it comes to today's colleges.

You think I don't understand the academy? You are kidding yourself if you think Duke only has 88 exception. I promise you that the 88 were not the only Duke profs with PC biases against athlete, males, whites etc.

As far a Churchill goes, I am not sure how he abused students at CU at all? Now I think he should be fired for getting his position under false pretense and taking other peoples work as his own. I favor academic freedom FOR THE INDIVIDUAL. It is the job of administrators to make sure that departments do not have political tests in their hiring.

All that does is punish the remaining faculty, the students and the employees of the school.

Correct, take out the students and you have the people who could actually affect a change at Duke. The Duke faculty deserves to be punished, so that they will have an incentive to reform.

It reminds me of the people who state here on FR regularly that they aren't going to vote because the Republicans haven't been doing x or y. Great! so you want Democrats then? It sounds strong to "stand on principle" but often it's just pointless.

Voter can vote. They can vote for "better" conservatives in primaries. They can run for the office themselves.

Student in this situation are powerless except to transfer. Either Duke and other PC colleges get sent the message that this kind of action is costly or they will get the message that even this kind of action does not cause parents to do anything. If the message is the latter one, places like Duke will get worse.

But you have a student at Duke and I don't what you do is your choice. It may have impact beyond you, but it is still your choice. I hope it works out for you.
