No, the courageous Collin and his Two buddies spotted a guy by himself and started calling him "gay" because they were big tough guys. The guy told them to stop. Instead they said they were gonna beat his ass unless he admitted he was gay- which he did, but one of the three punched him anyway. Finnerty may not be a rapist, but he's a punk.

For the H-S to even have a 17 year-old speaking to the issue is so absurd, it's laughable.

Wow! That's astonishing. It was obvious to outsiders at the time that the university's adminitration was going to just throw them to the wolves. But if this is true, it seems like they were also trying to suppress their civil rights while doing it.

No one in their right mind should send a child to that school unless there's a change in it's administration. The prez needs to be booted immediately.

I agree. That guy's got to be a frosh. What the hell does he know about events that happened last year when he was at his high-school prom?

"Finnerty may not be a rapist, but he's a punk"

Oh come on. You don't know him, so how can you say he is a punk.
Did you witness the exchange between the three and the other boy? If your answer is no, then you should state your opinion, not a fact.
I am not an attorney but I do no hear say is not evidence.

An interesting comment:

Texas Mom,

You should know that the "instructions" given to the lacrosse players from the Duke administration went beyond,

(a) Don't tell your parents,

but also included,

(b) Don't seek independent legal counsel, and

(c) Rely upon Duke's recommended legal representation.

It was only after a number of the players began to sense that the legal representative recommended by Duke was clearly putting Duke's interests ahead of that of the players, even to the point of placing the players in extreme legal jeapordy, that some of players decided to disregard Duke's advice and seek their parent's counsel.

If anyone has been surprised by the intensity of outrage felt by many of the Duke lacrosse parents, as a group, at this case, the above facts represent the "lighting of the fuse".

What does he know about ANYTHING this serious at his age?

It's ridiculous...........and then to quote him? A 17 year-old?

Good God. That paper is truly, truly desperate.

One Durham resident watching in the BC said the truth was more complex than "60 Minutes" portrayed. "There's nobody who's innocent here," William Dixon said. "They should not have had a party like that. This is a school of standards."

Gee, I wonder where THAT person lived............LOL.

For the sake of argument, let's assume that CF is an unlikable hotheaded jerk. In what way does that have any impact on whether or not he is guilty of these charges? It has no impact.

From the Duke Chronicle editorial:

District Attorney Mike Nifong, whose actions since the party might have faced the most searing criticism last night, was not interviewed on the program. Notably, his colleagues were not either; the show appeared somewhat imbalanced as a result.

FGS, didn't they HEAR Bradley say that Nifong nor anybody else would speak to them for this story?

That IS their response!

I was shocked and totally disappointed.

What I think NOW is that C-Spin did this on purpose. They did not want a discussion of the book and the issues. Too revealing and educational for the masses. They just wanted to show BOR as some kind of lionized, worshipped figure by those people who came to see him.

Supposed to be a bad thing...unless your name is Bill Clinton and then it's peachy.

"No, the courageous Collin and his Two buddies spotted a guy by himself and started calling him "gay" because they were big tough guys."

And you know this because? What went on before that? What happened inside the eatery? Was Finnerty being harrassed first and taunted about whether he was gay? Is that what brought on the fracas outside?

Of course, the "fair" judge Bayly never permitted testimony about any of that in court; he cut it off in mid-sentence.

This was doubtless to help out his buddy US attorney Wainstein out of a jam--because he couldn't let a rich white preppie kid slide without it looking like favoritism. So eight federal attorneys and nine additional staff were tossed into the prosecution.

Meanwhile, Cynthia McKinney gets to skate.

Both these racially charged cases were decided upon by the political needs of the US attorney, who is now confirmed as assistant US attorney general, and who will likely be appointed a judge before Bush is out of office. The guy is a fast-riser and no one wants to see his career derailed by two minor cases which nevertheless had the potential to damage him if the defendants weren't handled in the way the mob wanted.

"The guy told them to stop."

And Finnerty gets punched in the back of the head and knocked down--which is odd unless he was walking away
from his assailant.

Police say there are about a dozen of these kinds of fights every night in Georgetown. But none are prosecuted--OOPS!
Except this one, which requires a huge salvo from the federal government (for a misdemeanor).

"Finnerty may not be a rapist, but he's a punk."

Maybe so, but that's not been made criminal, yet. . .

Student newspapers. Gotta love 'em. They're doing at least as well as the N&O and H-S.

To be a little fair to Nifong, the court order is probably a pretty decent justification for keeping silent. Yeah, yeah, I know, too little, too late. And the court order should not have been necessary in the first place.

I agree with you. Bill's book rates an interview with Brian Lamb. I rarely watch C-SPAN and this reminded me of WHY.
