Being well into my 60s, I remember baseball when it was “the” sport. And a great sport it was back then. Now it just seems not so much a sport as much as it is just a moneymaking machine … baseball is circling the drain and soon to be only a memory, something talked about in history classes.

Nah. The terrible Mariners drew over two million this year. No other sport could play over the summer and keep the American cultural zeitgeist. It's our game, and comparisons, say, between father and son over Koufax and Johnson will only end when the Republic does.
