My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Now, that's a pretty amazing photo! Someone has great skills with a camera to take such a shot. Beautiful, thank you.

And a good morning to you, SF.

Kubla Khan

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree :
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round :
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree ;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

But oh ! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover !
A savage place ! as holy and enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover !
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
A mighty fountain momently was forced :
Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail :
And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
It flung up momently the sacred river.
Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean :
And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war !
The shadow of the dome of pleasure
Floated midway on the waves ;
Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.
It was a miracle of rare device,
A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice !

A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw :
It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount Abora.
Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight 'twould win me,
That with music loud and long,
I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome ! those caves of ice !
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware ! Beware !
His flashing eyes, his floating hair !
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Coleridge was one of the many imbibers of laudanum and opium and that is how how wrote his best works.

If you've ever read the Ancient Mariner, it ends the way it does because his opium spell was broken by someone entering his room.

I've read the Ancient Mariner. My mom used to quote lines from the poem, something she learned in school.

She attended a one room school with one teacher. Grades went to eight, that was moms total education -then life-often the hardest teacher.

She was a smart lady.

My hubby went to a two room school house for a couple years. He's not here and I'm not sure how many grades it was.

Coleridge's works have a flow that is mesmerizing to me.

Exactly! He was in an altered state, had access to the natural flow of things. I am not suggesting it's the only way to write, lest I be misunderstood, but in that state there is no noise, unless someone else makes it.

I think it was said of Lewis Carroll that he did some drug taking.

There was a long period of opium & laudanum taking. Marijuana was around then, too, but considered low-class.

Gotta run to an appt.

Hugs.

Soft Adoration

Soft the lips that teases with gentle worship
exploring, seeking, finding treasures
and leaves them to find another day
for such is the sweet gift a lover pays
shared in a moment of enfolding pleasure
and give their homage with hands and lips

Veteran's Day 2006

To the young, to the aging, Veterans of many wars,
Thank You for your service.
Your scars, some visible, some not seen.
Your medals earned for valiant deeds, held high in esteem.
Your shed tears on bloodied battle grounds
known to you and you alone.

Parades are held to honor you and rightfully so,
your heads held high, with honor we bestow
the fight for freedom to continue throughout the lands.
You answered the call to go, and with gratitude Veteran,
Old Glory stills flies o'er this land.
