Good morning all. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and Robert sent an email. A 34 minute phone call and two emails in two days - I'm in the clouds. God Bless all who have prayed for our son, nephew, and my sister's step-niece, as well as all our troops fighting for us.
All I can say is "WOW". That is very moving. Thanks.
Great, hearing from your son has made your days. ;)
I've written more than a few poems based on military time, this one I shifted the location, but not the sense of the poem to reflect the war of today.
Another Day In Paradise
Duty, she is all to often a tough old bitch
demanding of one sometimes everything
amid the shifting hell of a sudden firefight
or hours counting every grain of sand in sight
or explain how the HumVee got another ding
and how it ended up in that roadside ditch
Patrol the streets ducking IEDs, snipers, and sand
or eating damn MREs, the risks the same any day
and what Id give for a cheeseburger and a coke
and time enough to read my mail and have a smoke
what a guy does to mark his time and draw his pay
here in this distant place, this oh so ancient land
Watching my six and my buddys too
we do what we must to survive this hell
and we do it with a soldiers pride by God
and sometimes a name in stone rests under sod
were here and well do it right, history will tell
for thats what a soldiers trained to do
Dream of home and the girls there
of life sweet and the good times wed share
our friends and family we miss each day
and how we long the words we might say
we do the job, and we live it and care
thinking of the real world and home I swear
Creating
Sometimes in the silent moments of the night,
I can hear the words that fill my head again.
Whispering something that I ache to pen,
and I struggle to get it down just oh so right.
Sometimes they are temperamental, evading,
and I have to trap each one and set its place.
Others crowd in, eager to be a part of the race,
each important, once locked down, never fading.
When they flow to fit into their selected form,
I feel the energy they hold as if plugged in.
Not to write them down seems a certain sin,
from logic clear to passions surging warm.
Joy, simple joy, for the words come alive,
finally finding their own place in the end.
I close my eyes and hear them, each a friend,
and we share the birthing for which we did strive.
Only I may ever know the efforts total sum,
and that is enough, even when I share the work at last.
Like a child it is part of me, our bond made fast,
though it may fly free from me, we are still one.
This piece is very good. I like it a lot.
Good night everyone.
Beautiful poem. You might consider publishing if you have many more.

Good morning,
Ms Feather!

The Poor Family
One day a father and his rich family took his son to a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night in the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
"Very good Dad!"
"Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked.
"Yeah!"
"And what did you learn?"
The son answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden, they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden, they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard, they have a whole horizon."
When the little boy was finishing, his father was speechless.
His son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are!"
Isn't it true that it all depends on the way you look at things? If you have love, friends, family, health, good humor and a positive attitude towards life -- you've got everything!

And a very good morning to you, Ms. feather. We are having a glorious Thursday morning with lots of sunshine and cool temperatures. Too bad I'll be working this weekend. It's looking like a good fishing weekend to me. Oh well, perhaps the weather will hold for one more week after this.

Good morning, bentfeather!
