My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and me...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

To: SoldierDad
Just a new thread ping. Dang, I missed you in my first one. Sorry.
To: bentfeather
No worries. None of us can remember all that needs remembering.

Thank You.
That poem won my book publishing contract in 2003. It's a precious poem for me. It has been the lead poem on every thread, save the Anniversary Thread we just left.
The poem was written in about twenty minutes.
I knew it was a winner before I ever read it in competition. Was I confident, yes I was.

An Astrologer's Song
by Rudyard Kipling
To the Heavens above us
O look and behold
The Planets that love us
All harnessed in gold!
What chariots, what horses
Against us shall bide
While the Stars in their courses
Do fight on our side?
All thought, all desires,
That are under the sun,
Are one with their fires,
As we also are one:
All matter, all spirit,
All fashion, all frame,
Receive and inherit
Their strength from the same.
(Oh, man that deniest
All power save thine own,
Their power in the highest
Is mightily shown.
Not less in the lowest
That power is made clear.
Oh, man, if thou knowest,
What treasure is here!)
Earth quakes in her throes
And we wonder for why!
But the blind planet knows
When her ruler is nigh;
And, attuned since Creation
To perfect accord,
She thrills in her station
And yearns to her Lord.
The waters have risen,
The springs are unbound--
The floods break their prison,
And ravin around.
No rampart withstands 'em,
Their fury will last,
Till the Sign that commands 'em
Sinks low or swings past.
Through abysses unproven
And gulfs beyond thought,
Our portion is woven,
Our burden is brought.
Yet They that prepare it,
Whose Nature we share,
Make us who must bear it
Well able to bear.
Though terrors o'ertake us
We'll not be afraid.
No power can unmake us
Save that which has made.
Nor yet beyond reason
Or hope shall we fall--
All things have their season,
And Mercy crowns all!
Then, doubt not, ye fearful--
The Eternal is King--
Up, heart, and be cheerful,
And lustily sing:--
What chariots, what horses
Against us shall bide
While the Stars in their courses
Do fight on our side?

Barrack-Room Ballads
by Rudyard Kipling
When 'Omer smote 'is bloomin' lyre,
He'd 'eard men sing by land an' sea;
An' what he thought 'e might require,
'E went an' took -- the same as me!
The market-girls an' fishermen,
The shepherds an' the sailors, too,
They 'eard old songs turn up again,
But kep' it quiet -- same as you!
They knew 'e stole; 'e knew they knowed.
They didn't tell, nor make a fuss,
But winked at 'Omer down the road,
An' 'e winked back -- the same as us!

Good night everyone.

Alright! A new thread! I might as well post up the rest of my pictures (or at least another batch, 39 pictures is more that it seems!)
Previous Thai pictures #1Previous Thai pictures #2Previous Thai pictures #3Previous Thai pictures #4
1.
Remember the Mysterious Path? Well it didn't really lead to the sunny temples (those are a one hour flight to the north!). It really leads to....
2.
The Khao Sarn Road Temple! (which is partly under repair!). Technically it doesn't "lead to" the temple, it really points in another direction, and the temple and path are already on the same grounds anyway, but I'm trying to create a flow here!
3.
Buddha's Big Footprint This is an ancient Buddhist symbol. One of the ancient kings who the Buddha was visiting begged him to leave some souvenir to remember Buddha. So Buddha stepped his foot into the river bank, leaving a foot print. Rather clever, it embodies the Buddha's teachings that all things never last and attachment to that which won't last anyway is the source of pain in life. So he left a very temporary foot print as both souvenir, and an example of his teachings:
4.
Bring Out Your Bells! I would surmise that this is the old bell from the enscafolded bell tower.
5.
Shhhhh! Someone is Meditating! Here's a dark colored Buddha statue which sits in this personal enclosure. Shhhh!
This is from a different temple a few blocks away from that first one.
6.
Chinese Style Patio This temple, near the Khao Sarn Road temple, has been having some renovation done. I don't think this Chinese influenced patio was finished two years ago.
Well I think that's it for now. I believe I can squeeze one more presentation out of the roll I took,
8 weeks ago! Wild, it both seems like yesterday, and seems like forever ago.
I'm weighing whether to rush back to Taiwan sooner, or hang out a couple more weeks. If I stay longer in Thailand then I'll spend next week on the little islands in East Thailand, and snap some pics of the natural scenery type stuff. Otherwise I guess the next project will be pictues of Taiwan!
Cheers everyone!

I think I'll try a poem that has nothing to do with Thailand, for a change!
Twisted Currents
Down by the creek
are the fruits we seek
not the onion, carrot, or leek
but the current it is
dripping juice from our fists
picked from the vine
packed full of life
some are yours, some are mine
music from pipes
dancing under the moon
black as a beautiful mare
currents go into our brew
twisted currents are our fare
twisted currents for me, twisted currents for you
/////////////////////////////////////////////////
to be continued!
My muse ran out for a smoke! But this one's half finished. (any takers on finishing it??!!)
