A boon for 'Daniel Boone' on DVD
Star-Trib ^ | Sep 22 06 | Randy Salas

The frontier TV series "Daniel Boone" was big in its day, but that was more than 40 years ago. No matter. The show's first two seasons, which come out Tuesday on DVD, are among the top 10 sellers for this week's releases at Amazon.

Fess Parker, who starred as the famous historical figure, knows why the 1964-70 series remains popular. "The show has lots of adventure and deals with groundbreaking themes that still attract audiences," said the actor, now 82. "The writing and acting was always superb, and when you do a show that good, it always resonates with old and new fans alike."

Some of the Popeye cartoons are so old (1937) that they are in black-and-white.

I'd like to get some of the Warner Brothers cartoons from WWII and the decade or two after. Those are hard to find though.

I picked up the full 26 episodes of Victory at Sea last week from Wal-Mart for $5.50.

You and I are indeed members of an elite class of discerning consumers!

i.e., I got my "Victory At Sea" set at WM on Friday...for that great $5.50 price.

Haven't opened it yet as it might be added to my brother's
haul of birthday gifts!

Not that I've searched, but I have read that the Political-Correctness cops
have squelched distribution of Warner Brothers cartoons that
ridicule the guys who would have blown the USA to kingdom-come in WWII.

What a bunch of jerks the PC Cops are.

No kidding! These shows are like the OLD World Books, that still have un-revised history. They have good guys and bad guys, they fight and stand for Truth and don't pander to every savage that comes along.

And they even die to defend the Alamo.

I just got the two-dvd set of Davy Crockett and Mike Fink. We loved it. I made my 20 year old watch it -- 'this is how it really was.' We homeschooled him, so he already knows REAL American history.

The family always watched Gunsmoke and Bonanza together. They don't make shows like that anymore!

Great series -- Richard Rodgers thrilling score was some of his best music.

Yes the music is great. We are fixing to watch episode 10. There are 3 disc in the set. I just bought the set for my boyfriend (a retired Senior Chief) and we watch an episode or two an evening. We enjoy the old movies TIVO finds for us and the music in them often is Rodgers & Hammerstien.
