After the Teams took a thrilling skydive over Normandy, France, dating couple Rob & Kimberly had the race nearly won by booking the earliest flight to New York alone until models Tyler & James got on the plane at the last moment. In the Big Apple, an E-Z Pass through a tollbooth made all the difference as Tyler & James left Rob & Kimberly in the dust to claim the one million dollar prize as winners of THE AMAZING RACE.
While a little disappointed, dating couple Rob & Kimberly crossed the finish line in second place amid cheers from the other Teams. Kimberly remarked, "This is one of the hardest things I've ever done and I'm proud of the fact that we made it this far. Most relationships don't get put through this." Rob added, "We had our ups and downs, but we have a great relationship it turns out. I really am in love with this woman."After claiming third place, Karlyn summed up here experience, saying, "I have just been around the world and I've learned that I can do whatever I set my mind to and it's just been the best blessing. It's just like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon. That's the thing I want to give my daughter from this experience." A tearful Lyn added, "To finish the actual race and then to make history and be the first female Team that means a lot."
To sum up the feelings of his winning Team, Tyler reflected, "James and I just went through so many countries and it just seems like a blur, a time warp. But we went through all those things and we actually finished at the top. Ever since I've been sober, that's how I feel like my life has been is, it feels too good to be true, like when am I going to wake up? We won the game of life. Now we won The Amazing Race too."
Let's revisit Tyler and James a year from now and see how much money they have left. Giving $1,000,000 to two recovering cokeheads is a recipe for disaster!
I have always wondered....do the second and third place winners get any money?
Had Bama told the taxi to take them to the International terminal, instead of specifying Orly, they might have lucked out and beaten the models to be first on the wait list. Then again, had they all made the same flight, they would have fallen way behind in the two mile trek on foot to the cube.
I just love a happy ending.
I didn't see the clips on the All Stars--did they give any heads-up on who will compete?
I was kinda cheering for the Bama gals since they are from my home state, yet I'm not unhappy with the boys winning. I have a soft spot for recovering addicts.
Thanks for this thread and all the time you've put into it! See ya'll next time!
My husband didn't even watch the finale because he didn't like any of the three remaining teams.
I would have just liked the blonds to have been in the finale. I think it would have been more of a foot race.
Speculation and spoilers are over on the Survivor Sucks board. I don't want to post here in case others don't want to be spoiled. They're really keeping it under wraps.
Thanks for doing the heavy lifting this season, s_j.
I was rooting for the "dudes!" once the blondes got eliminated. They were the two strongest teams.
I think the all-star version next season will be as (non)entertaining as the family edition.
Just think; Romber, Victoriahhhh abd Jonathug, Reichen and The Backstreet Boy (or whatever group he's in)....ugh (but I'll watch! LOL)
I've always wondered that as well.
I think all the teams MUST get some recompensation...or maybe the fact they get a free trip offsets that.
Thanks for the recap. I fell asleep and missed the whole thing.
PLEASE don't let Rob and Amber be on it!!!
They wouldn't dare!
Romber were insufferable but they played the game well. I wouldn't mind seeing them again.
We will also see Charla and Mirna. I believe cBS said that every season would be represented except for the family edition and one other season (I think it was season 7, but don't quote me on it).
Amazing Race 7 winners Joyce and Uchenna, who beat Rob and Amber. Sadly, the Weavers apparently wont be showing up to give us another season of maddeningly fun hypocrisy. Thats because [m]ost editions of the Race are expected to be represented on the all-star edition, save for the much-panned family edition.
