The Ramseys were at a party, came home and went to bed. The note said he would call them between 8 and 10 am. How did he know that they would have even been up and discovered the note before 8 AM. The phone never rang because it was never supposed to ring. What it did do was give Karr "extra time" while everyone waited for the call and at the same time, they failed to make a thorough search of the house. Is THAT why he left the "elaborate" note?
