No - keep reading - the blood had spread throughout several layers of the brain membrane - no, it's not usually there - it's in the veins. This was a flood.

You said something about an end of the paint brush being in Patsy's tote. I had never heard of a tote in this case. So, now a piece of the murder weapon is found in PR's tote? Rich.

FAO wraps them in the store in their signature wrapping paper, but you can also get extra paper to wrap your own at home.

I believe these were probably all already wrapped in NYC and PR had to check to see what was in them, as to who they were for, to make out the TO/FROM tags and know what to take to CHX or maybe save for next ATL trip or keep back for Boulder kids when they got back - not sure on a clear answer to that.

She was running behind on everything - even left a gift basket because she didn't have time to drop it off at the Fernies or Walkers or maybe Barbers, now I'm not sure which it was.

Okay, that makes sense. It would be nice to actually see if any of the packages had been opened and were missing underwear. But, then again, this may not be the package of interest anyway...

I'm sorry, you're confusing me.

Say someone's dead and has been dead for 12 hours. They were strangled to death and the tight cord remained around their throat. (Someone else, not JonBenet.)

They would have blood in their head, and that blood would be in the blood vessels, right? Aside from some petechial hemorrhaging, most of the blood would be contained in the vessels. Right? And that blood would have begun to seperate (settle) into its different components (red blood cells, white blood cells, etc.) (still within the vessels). Right?

And that's as far as I've gotten to where I feel comfortable that I know what I'm talking about. But we do agree up to this point?

Well, yes. This isn't my strong point. She had blood and contusions - bruises - that would not have been there if they had happened after she had died, or after her heart stopped.

She had hemorrhaging on her scalp, hemorrhaging of the subdural membrane and the subarachnoid membrane. She had purple contusion underlying the whole skull fracture. That is bruising - blood "rushing" to the trauma. The heart was beating, but not at its normal high rate, as judged by the amount of blood measured.

The only blood pressure after death is gravity, which causes livor mortis. That is blood pooling at the lowest points. It goes there and stays there if the body isn't moved. There is no way the skull fracture would just "happen" to also be the lowest point of gravity (and it wasn't) where blood would "pool" under the skin where it could be observed.

I know I'm not getting across what I'm trying to say, but I'm making myself sick trying, lol. I looked for some diagrams to explain it, but most were sites where you had to sign in. Maybe another time. Words just aren't the way to show this.

Hardly "rich".

When taken together with the fact that the so-called ransom note was written on Patsy's writing tablet.

Not to mention, although otherwise the ransom note sounds like nothing Patsy would write - filled as it was with lines from movies and veiled references from other child abductions and murders - the so-called ransom note requested 118,000 dollars which just happened to be what John's bonus was that year, therefore also throwing suspicion on Patsy (except it is so stupid, so lame to imagine anyone asking for the amount of their husband's bonus, it should have pointed AWAY from her).....it therefore isn't remarkable under those broader circumstances IF the paint brush were tucked into Patsy's tote.

Has anyone ever wondered, if there were an intruder bent on sticking it to the Ramseys by taking their daughter, sexually assaulting her and killing her, right there in the home, then why not cast suspicion on the parents by doing such things?

Otherwise, Patsy was sure busy casting suspicion on herself wasn't she? Uses own notepaper and pen, replicas of which were all over her house, writes the handwriting in a way in which at least it was possibly plausible that she wrote the note, includes the exact 118, 000 bonus figure demand, etc., and you say "rich", IF the paint brush was found in her tote???

Not me, I say wake up to what was being done in that home by looking at the whole situation.

But no, you're as heavily invested in Patsy the perp as Baden, Wecht et al. Oh wait, didn't I read where you thought Burke did it (Patsy covering up for him), then after you pondered the horrific damage done to JonBenet's head, you decided Burke wasn't strong enough to have done that degree of damage?

So, could you have been "wrong", before, and changed your mind? Surely, surely not. Perish the thought.

Rest in peace, Patsy. That's what I say about your "rich" remark. Rest in peace, poor Patsy.

The list says they took "garland" as well. Why? Same reason they took the angel? For whatever reason that was...

Even after they found Jonbenet, they NEVER used dogs to try and pick up a trail? The guy was certainly on foot for a while.

I'm having a hard time understanding the investigative techniques of the Colorado Police Department.

Why they concentrated on the Ramseys is beyond me. The handwriting examination process they put the Ramseys through was ridiculous. It was NOT a blind test and the prejudice of at least one of the "experts" shows through.

This is one of those cases that needed a real good profiler. The police were inept to say the least.

We had the Arthur Shawcross case in my hometown. He had brutally and grotesquely killed two children at separate times in Watertown, NY. The common thread was fishing.

He went to prison for 15 years. After he got out, THEY moved him to Rochester, NY. He switched his MO. In a 15 month period, he killed 11 prostitutes and left their bodies in/near the river.

My point is that people like this are repeaters. Mandatory life or the needle is the way to protect society.

The NYS DNA base has recently been expanded by law. Our DA said it will be helpful but it is still not enough because many of these "serious crime" folks commit minor crimes which do not mandate a DNA sample.

An expansion of the DNA database AND the fingerprint database is necessary in todays world. It benefits ALL of society.

Ahhhhh, Sacajaweau, you just uttered a huge heresy..."why they concentrated on the Ramseys is beyond me". I can almost feel the earth quake beneath my feet and the chill of he*# freezing over.

The police needed a PROFILER, you said. Very excellent point! Except they made up their "minds" right away that no one from the outside had been there. Lou Smit did good work, much later even, coming up with possible indications of an intruder, but by then it was too late for the Ramseys.

Given the walled-off nature of their mindset from the start - they didn't need no stinkin' profiler.

Linda Arndt knew as soon as John brought JonBenet's body upstairs that the Ramsey's were guilty.

I don't know how the Ramsey's held it together all these years. I'm thankful that Patsy no longer has to endure all of the pain and suffering (physical as well). Poor John. He's lost two daughters and now a wife. Patsy hadn't been dead long at all when this whole John Karr thing started. Guy just can't get a break. I pray for him. What they've been through I wouldn't wish on anyone. He doesn't even have anyone next to him when he sleeps anymore. I can't even imagine the dreams he has.

I think whatever was in Karr's mind in 1996 came to past. He left the Ramsey family, particularly John, in a forever tortured state.

Karr's sick mind goes with Karr appearing to be compassionate (apology) towards "Patricia"...but there was no apology to Mr. Ramsey.

Karr himself has become the tortured man. He sees his viciousness over and over in his mind. We can only imagine it.

The big difference. The Ramseys had LOVE for their child and each other. It sustained them.

There was nothing to sustain John Karr after 2001. Every step was a wall. He lost HIS wife, HIS boys and even HIS own father thought he was dead.

Victory? Me thinks not!!

I think praying for John Ramsey is a good idea. He needs that great strength that can only come from God.

To: Rte66; Anybody

I've been reading up on blood and stuff for hours. I need more info on the following though. Links or the right keywords for a search would be nice if you have them!

***What happens to blood after death?

I read that within an hour it liquifies, never to coagulate again. But then I read that people who die from asphyxiation, their blood liquifies longer, so I'm not clear on the coagulation changes in blood after death. I read that pooling (livor mortis) can move around if the body is repositioned, but after a certain period of time it won't do that anymore. I read that it will blanch for so long but after that it won't blanch. So I'm not clear on the blood thing. I want to understand how that works.

***What is the difference between a contusion (bruise) and hemorrhage?

I can't find a really clear explanation/distinction between the two. I did read about contusions with and without hemorrhaging, so they have to be fundamentally different, but a regular medical definition of the two terms makes them sound the same really.

***Sulci and gyri.

I know what they are but I'm not 100% sure what the significance of them narrowing and flattening would be.

***Bruising on the tips of the temporal lobes.

I know this can be caused by the brain banging against the inside of the skull but which side gets banged is dependent upon the motion of the head (or object). I'm not clear on that.

I have a fairly good idea about most of what I listed, but not a complete understanding. However, I think I have all of the other aspects down pat now. I've been reading alot! Any help with the above would be appreciated.

You may be right. I may be wrong. I'm going where I think the evidence I'm learning takes me, regardless of whether I have to change or revise what I previously suspected. As I learn more I'm sure my suspicions will change - that's what learning is. I don't how to be any clearer than that.

"***What is the difference between a contusion (bruise) and hemorrhage?"

My understanding is that a bruise or contusion is sometimes, but not always, the antecedent of hemorrhage. It could be viewed as a special case of hemorrhage.

Hemorrhage is any 'bursting forth' of blood into an area where it shouldn't be. Thus its an escape of blood from an area in which it is normally confined into an area where it is not 'supposed' to be present.

A bruise is an injury that does not involve breaking of skin and produces hemorrhage.

***Sulci and gyri.

Again, and this is just my understanding, flattening and narrowing of the sulci and gyri is one of the first things the brain does when it begins to swell. It is indicative of the initial phase of brain swelling.

Hope that helps.
