DURHAM - Investigator Michelle Soucie of the Durham Police Department was working the phones the afternoon of April 17, trying to set up DNA tests on evidence in the Duke lacrosse case. A private laboratory in Burlington gave a price, and Soucie immediately contacted District Attorney Mike Nifong.

In examining the files Nifong has produced in the case, The News & Observer found that the accuser gave at least five different versions of the alleged assault to different police and medical interviewers and made shaky identifications of suspects. To get warrants, police made statements that weren't supported by information in their files.

Much of the district attorney's evidence is contained in more than 1,800 pages of documents he has made available to the defense under a recent state law requiring prosecutors to open their files before trial. Those documents are only part of the evidence that could be introduced in a criminal trial. They do not include information still being gathered or testimony that might occur under oath.
But they offer the most complete picture thus far of evidence in the case that has put Durham and Duke in the national spotlight. The documents -- police notes, court orders, DNA tests, interviews and handwritten statements -- show what the prosecution has learned and how it conducted itself in State of North Carolina vs. Collin Finnerty, Reade W. Seligmann and David Forker Evans, who could face decades in prison if convicted.

Since Nancy Grace was quoted in the USN&WR piece, does anyone suspect she will comment on the case in the next day or two? Will Catfish talk about it? Hannity & Colmes?
Why did you say that? Now I am going to go see the car wreck, LOL!
Now we know whey they were impotent - at 270 lbs - I suspect hardening of the arteries had set in.
Poor bastards 19 years old, morbidly obese and impotent.
Society (and Frito-lay) has failed these men !!!
What is all the talk at CTV about fingerprints? Good Lord, everyone admits she was there, was in the bathroom, why is 2 braids so frantic about fingerprints?
How could the defense investigators get the computer? I agree with the other posters that the prosecution has it.
And isn't that some of the discovery material that has yet to be turned over to the defense? Or maybe it HAS been turned over to the defense and the Duke parent is leaking the information. Let's not forget that unauthorized quasi-gag order is still in effect.
When you're losing a debate, throw up clouds of smoke - anything to get you opponent off point...
2 braids is frantic to keep this non-case viable. I am not going to dignify her stupid theory by repeating it here. Drat! Now I've got to go back over there....
They are just disruptors and needles. Occasionally they ask questions about evidence to hide their scheme.
I hope Hannity talks about it. He was really passionate about the case being a big injustice.
Interesting thread!
IF, BIG IF, the AV was googling the LAX players' families on her computer that would be a bombshell.
You know, I've been trying to figure out what this rumor is. I wonder if Gottlieb or someone gave Crystal a lie detector test and she failed. Just thinking out loud...
o&c, I think someone earlier (possibly Mike Nifong) described that person as 2 brain cells. It is a more fitting name. Just keep it in mind when reading the postings of that person. You will see.
That would be a bombshell. And weren't we speculating months ago that that's exactly what she did before she finally identified the players? There is no doubt in my mind that she was coached before that -- what was it? the fourth? -- lineup where she picked out poor Reade and Colin with 100 percent certainty.
Didn't one of the TH's question how she happened to select the three richest players? No sons of firefighters for old Crystal!
I don't know who "Joan" is but here's a blurb on the rumor.
"... Our fellow poster, Joan, predicted that there would be breaking news this week. Either she has a crystal ball or she is far more in the know than most of us. In either case, THANK YOU JOAN for continuing to provide us with your magnificent postings.
