The 10 least politically correct movies ever
MS NBC ^ | July 11, 2006 | Michael Ventre

Many believe political correctness is good. It keeps us in line. It reminds us that almost all segments of society should be treated with dignity and respect. A joke at the expense of someone’s gender, race or ethnic background has no place in movies today.

Of course, there are those who disagree, who believe political correctness is wrong, who feel that it only creates resentment toward the offended parties. A PC world is a world of oppression, they say, where freedom of speech is allowed in theory, but not in practice.

Personally, I’m not sure how I feel. Ideally, I’d like to straddle the line between both so as not to offend anyone.

Most of these movies make fun of certain groups using stereotypes. Blazing Saddles, like Huckleberry Finn, is included because of the N word, but if you watch it, the movie is a positive image of blacks with a negative image of racists and portrays bigoted people becoming somewhat enlightened. Twenty years or so ago when this movie came out, most black people I knew actually loved it and would watch it again and again. Now they have been told to ignore the story and instead focus on the N word.

Wow! I think Blazing Saddles qualifies for more than just the N word! "What in the wide world of sports is goin' on"? (Slim Pickens) "Out here jumpin' around like a bunch of Kansas City faggots..."

Then the scene where they do a Busby Berkley-esque version of: "Watch me, faggots!" (Dom Deluise) "Throw out your hands, stick out your tush, hands on your hips, give it a push -- that is why we call it the French Mistake, voila!"

(Madeline Kahn) "Oh, it's twue, it's twue". And Harvey Kormann calling her "You Teutonic twat"!

Then there is the recruitment line where Harvey Kormann is listening to a line-up of bigots and perverts telling their qualifications to be on his posse.

Lots more than the N word. That's why I agree with the first poster that Blazing Saddles is #1 in this category.

My nominee: Demolition Man. Sylvester Stallone, brought out of cryogenic suspension, to "rescue" the ultimate P.C. society.

Edgar Friendly (Played by Denis Leary, basically playing himself): You see, according to Cocteau's plan I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder - "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green jello all over my body reading playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".

To Live and Die in LA politicially incorrect? Don't get me wrong. It's a great movie, and it's the only place I've ever liked Wang Chung. I just don't get the PiC rating.

And Slapshot? I don't care who you are, THAT'S funny!

I think you said what I mean. "Politically" correct is used because the argument is framed as a leftist/liberal "correct" viewpoint vs. a bigoted, racisist - Republican/conservative "incorrect" viewpoint. If you follow that logic(?) conservative = bigot.

There's an Italian-made shockumentary called "Where Have You Gone, Uncle Tom?" that pretends to be a "48 Hours" look at how things were in the Old South, complete with interviews with the auctioneer and cages packed with pregnant black women. Definitely the most polically incorrect movie I've ever seen.

'Joe': A 1970 gem with Peter Boyle as a Hardhat who decides to start shooting/killing people he doesn't like.
One is the dirty, drug dealing Hippie fiance of his daughter (Susan Sarandon, in her first movie role)

The film climaxes as Joe and a buddy ambush the Hippie, who coming to see Joe's daughter. The buddy offs the Hippie, while Joe hits and kills his daughter... D'OH!!!
'Across 110th Street' Another 70s gem with Anthony Quinn and Yaphett Kotto as Harlem detectives trying to track down a gang that ripped off a local Mob book making shop. The Mob sends gloriously psychotic Tony Franciosa out to find the gang and exact vengeance.

'Freebie & The Bean': 70s again! James Caan and Alan Arkin run roughshod over San Francisco and LA to find the shooter of a mid-level mob boss. The bad guy is a Transvestite, who was the mid-level boss's lover.

'Who'll Stop The Rain': One of Nick Nolte's (Who's awesome!) earliest roles. As a Vietnam vet/Mechant Seaman who agrees to pick up and carry 3 kilos of pure uncut Laotian heroin for correspondent Michael Moriarity.

Everything goes bad, and Nolte and Tuesday Weld (Moriarity's wife) travel from San Francisco to LA, to Mexico trying to sell the H. While being running into and being pursued by a "Who's Who" of great character actors at the tops of their games.

The film is brilliant for showing the Post Vietnam malaise of the West Coast. Wiith everything from aging, Birkenstocked San Francisco Hippies. To brainless LA/Hollywood wannabe movers-and-shakers. To a gloriously bent and corrupt Fed (Anthony Zerbe) and his lunatic, moronic henchmen.

A great adaptation of Rober Stone's 'Dog Solidiers'!

Just a few off the top of my head.

Jack.

Thanks.

I'm amazed freepers would allow Hollywood to redefine "not PC" into something like "giving the finger to average American values." That's not what it is.

When Hollywood gives the finger to everyday Americans that is politically correct.

Liberals hate the middle class, they hate our values and they hate us. They hate strong fathers, virtuous mothers, and respectful children.

When Hollywood pushes liberal hateful myths about red state citizens, that is Politically Correct. "New Yorker looking down on hicks from flyover county" is the ultimate in politically correct thinking. When liberals make fun of the "hicks" that's politically correct. Us making fun of them (conservatives making fun of liberals - and liberal beliefs) is the is the ultimate not PC.

Key Largo is not PC - it shows a criminal as being base and creepy - not as a glorified powerful demigod. On the Waterfront isn't PC - it's about workers standing up to corrupt Unions... Rebel Without a Cause is not PC - it's about citizens taking a stand against evil. Hollywood hasn't put out a non-PC (glorifying liberal values) movie in the last 30 years.

Typical PC villains? White middle class people - people who believe in the law - parents who follow the rules - lawyers not pushing liberal causes, cops who are not corrupt or breaking the law - ministers - strong fathers - members of the military - anyone considered respectable.

And the PC heroes? Liberal teachers (especially from the ghetto), whores, law breakers, lawyers pushing for liberal causes - powerful criminals, those who "stand up" to the traditional, teenagers, rebellious teenagers - anyone who stand up to the traditional -- drug addicts etc.

[I recently heard that Disney will soon re-release SOS on DVD. They will probably insist on having Whoppi Goldberg do an extensive intro that you can't skip.]

Better than what they did to "Fantasia" on DVD. One of the scenes contains numerous female centaurs bathing in a pond. They are all drawn with different coat and hair colors and one of the centaurs has a zebra coat, but only in the original version. In the DVD version they did and extreme digital zoom-in on her face so you can't see her coat. Pathetic.

Sorry, trashing Catholicism is 100% politically correct.

You're right. Trashing any Christian is politically correct. Ministers, priests, and "people of God" are often villains in PC movies....

But that's precisely the distinction between "politically correct" and simply "offensive." (excuse me, "values challenged"). Back in the 60s through 80s, they were constantly inventing new words designed to "encourage self-esteem" among different classes. A person who failed to use the proper code words was deemed as wilfully insensitive, and therefore unfit for public office. The point was not that the person held beliefs which were offensive to voters, but that the left was attacking all non-university-certified leftists of having secret hatreds because they didn't care to brush up on the latest code words.

The right-wing equivalence would be to insist that all politicians who did not use the term, "freedom fries," were secretly French Socialists, or that those who said, "suicide bomber" instead of "homicide bomber" cared more about their buddies the terrorists than about the innocent victims.

To some extent the PC movement is wounded; although PC terms like "differently abled" still exist, the left has failed to implement, let alone enforce, new terms. This doesn't mean the dominance of the left is gone. Rather, they have become so dominant that they have invented new horrors for which there are no traditional terms. Case in point: legal contracts to continue to make oneself available for sodomy are called "marriages."

"Every Sperm is Sacred" is politically correct: it attacks a conservative institution by deliberately misstating its beliefs. Michael Moore, Bill Maher and David Duke aren't politically incorrect; they're just plain offensive. "Blazing Saddles" IS politically incorrect because in spite of the fact that it was attempting to promote racial tolerance that the left AND the right agreed on, it was attacked by the left as being racist.

Hating church, God, Christmas, America, the Republican Party, Christians, conservatives, white people, men, and cultural institutions is politically correct.

Using terminology, such as "oriental," which Noam Chomsky deems to stem from a subconscious desire to rape black children, is politically incorrect.

Thanks. In post 99, I expound a little more about the distinction between offensive and politically incorrect.

OK, maybe a lot more.
