The Dragonflies Lair~Thread XXIX
The Muse and Poets of the Lair | July 12, 2006 | bentfeather

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

BRAVO! Most profound.

"The mundane and the madness
if we had nothing, but joy
would we be satisfied?"

One of my favorite poets, E.A.Robinson wondered about this as well:

Richard Cory
By Edwin Arlington Robinson

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.
And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich - yes, richer than a king -
And admirably schooled in every grace;
In fine we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

Hmm, well that would be pretty scandalous, to breeze in and win something like that, but I won't hold my breath! Plus I don't think I can buzz out to Las Vegas very easily! What's the next theme, do you know yet?

They hold 3 conventions a year. Nope, it's open to the public and newcomers are always welcome.

I'll send you some material. It's on the web, but I don't want to advertise for them. ;)

The conventions are held in different cities. I have been to Washington, DC twice. They hold conventions in Florida as well. The one held passed is called "Summer".

Thanks, Freepmail received!

Maybe when I'm kicking back in Thailand and have a computer connection I'll look into many of those sorts of "submit writing" organizations. Like anything, stories, opinions, or poetry. Might be fun to just write a bunch of stuff and then send it out. Who knows, might make some money, and writing is basically free, after all!

Is that the same group you won your original publishing contract with? Where does the money come from, grants from rich people?

Yes, it is the same group. Contestants really pay for the prize money, these things are not cheap. No grant money involved.

Look the site over very carefully and make you own decisions.

Hmm, I don't want to pay for it!!! I just want free benefits!! I think I'll pass since I'm not confident I have a chance of winning any money!

You know, as I walked through the big central park in the capital today it was totally deserted because of the expected typhoon. A steady rain was falling straight down, and the sky was slate gray.

The big pond's surface was shimmering in the rain and reflecting the silvery sky. The effect made it appear as if the pond was covered in snow! At least if you didn't look directly at it. It was really cool looking as I crossed the big bridge over the pond with my new black umbrella in the pouring rain.

Made me wish I had a digital camera now, but I want to save on it by buying it in Thailand. (contrary to appearances, I am only able to live my rock and roll life style because cost of living is so cheap in Taiwan and Thailand, if you know where to find it, like apartments for $80-$100/month!)

Couple nights ago the whole sky was lit up in a brilliant orange and glittering yellow gold sunset. Filled the whole sky as clouds were positioned to keep reflecting it. Looked really awesome, but no camera so, here today, gone tomorrow! Oh well, ;-)

WOW the pictures you are writing about are fabulous. I can see through your words. And you say you are not confident!

Well, Starbase, everyone gets a trophy, LOL! You will not come away empty handed.

Hah! A trophy is what I need! ;-)

Well, 10:30pm now, guess I'll hit the sack. Tomorrow is final-final packing day. Maybe I can fly out Thursday, that would be cool.

G'nite, I'll say the word when I know what day I'll be leaving, till then see everyone later!

Brooding under a Blue Moon

For Lovers

awhile in afar place with you...
our spell was cast by ancients
conjuring healing prayers
pie bald moon cast a peek
in awe of our beauty...

we hang to the side of comets blazing
afire and laugh at the
flaring sun... we poke fun at
super nova dying... white hot...hot
blue dwarf, red giant, old... old...
dust burning.. star babies...
glow faerie light... twinkle bright
we know... we know...
it's ours forever ...

It's part of a family called Hummingbird moths. Some of the more colorful ones are often confused with the Hummingbird. I chose this one because of it artistic appearance.

I spotted one on some flowers last night and told hubby that it was a moth that people mistook for hummingbirds.   This morning at work, he looked it up and found that they're called humminbird moths.   I laughed.
