Thanks, I have forwarded that to all my misguided friends who support Italy.

Yeah, but it will be agonising to lose to the bastards on penalties again!

My deepest respect to Argentina, but Lehmann is the hero of the day.

Argentina paid the price for conservative play and substitutions after taking the lead. They were dominating midfield until they took the lead. Amazing game, just amazing!

Yes, let's make it a fair play final of England vs. the England of the East, Ukraine.

It would make a bit of a mockery of the tournament if Ukraine reached the final. Still, it would be great for England. For now though, I will just settle for the double whammy tomorrow of England beating Portugal and France knocking out the Brazilians.

Germany in the World Cup in penalties:

2006- Germany ties Argentina 1-1 ( wins 4-2 in penalties) Germany makes all their shots
1990- Germany ties England 1-1 (wins 4-3 in penalties). Germany makes all their shots
1986- Germany ties Mexico 0-0 (wins 4-1 in penalties). Germany makes all their shots
1982 Germany ties France 3-3 (wins 5-4 in penalties). Germany has one shot saved

so in sum, Germany is 4-0 and has made 17-18 in the Penalty Shootout in their history.

Argentina in World Cup Penalties

2006- Argentina ties Germany 1-1 ( loses 4-2 in penalties) Argentina has 2 shots saved
1998- Argentina ties England 2-2 ( wins 4-3 in penalties). Argentina has 1 shot saved
1990- Argentina ties Italy 1-1 (wins 4-3 in penalties) Argentina makes all their shots
1990- Argentina ties Yugoslavia (wins 3-2 in penalties) Argentina misses 1 shot, and has 1 saved

in sum Argentina is 3-1 in penalty shootouts, and have made 13-18 shots

Well Ballack tried to do a cheap swan dive and should have been carded.
He wasn't the only German caught going down with no foul let alone contact.

What a bunch of posers.

Argentina had it in their grasp. Losing their keeper kept Mesi off sadly.

Why is it mockery for Ukraine to advance and not England? It's only mockery if something kept another side from winning through a bad call.

Hasn't happened. Or is it a mockery T&T didn't advance instead of England?

Does the referee not keep track of "injury time" and have it added on? I know in American football the clock stops. In the NFL if there is an injury in the final two minutes of the game it is an automatic 10-yard penalty.

Lehman joins the Ukrainian keeper in reading and playing the penalties.
He did great.

Argentina lost me today when Riquelme was taken off.

Now, onto Italy-Ukraine.

Not sure what to think of this game.

I was more surprised by not seeing Messi on the field at all.

That's a shock!

Apparently Requelme did not recover well from the short rest. He was shot.
They had no choice but to take him off. But not seeing Messi and Saviola really hurt Argentina. Germany benefitted a great deal with the keeper being injured. That was a big sub that Argentina never saw.

And we all lost out seeing Argentina out without Messi making an appearance.

Poor Argyles.

The ref keep tracks of injury time, but it seldom adds up to the real time that is wasted.

I addition, time wasting in the form of diving and faking injuries chops up the flow of the game as well, making it harder for the attacking team.

Then in injury time, you can keep up the time wasting, and most of the time additional time will not be added.

Trinidad were comfortably beaten 2-0 by England. They were horrible. They deserved to advance about as much as the American team did.
