The Elite Eight!! The quarterfinal round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany gets underway Friday with a pair of highly-anticipated matches. The hosts kick things off against Argentina in Berlin (10:55 a.m. ET; ESPN). Italy will face Ukraine in the day's second game (2:55 p.m.; ESPN2).
Two of the quarterfinals are rematches of championship games: Brazil-France (1998) and Germany-Argentina (1986 and 1990).

This from a Yank, whose team scored one goal, an OWN goal, and lost to two ordinary teams.
>>No way Germany loses now, you just can't shut down and start up again as the Argies are about to find out.
Yeah not going to happen. The Tango commies are going to find out that if you take your best striker out of the match trying to be defensive, you can't win very easily if Germany ties it up.
And they tied it up. Stupid move by Arg IMO.
Yes. Go Portugal!
And if it goes to PKs they can't take the penalties either.
Advantage Germany.
First yellow for a dive I've seen this tournament.
The Argies should have put Messi on. How can you keep your best player on the subs bench? Holland did the same thing with Nistelrooy. I still think Argentina have by far the more talented side and can win this match in extra time.
Brasil will win it all.
The "Betis kiss of death". LOL
Wow, that was really clever. Good job.
Yeah the FR soccer hating trolls have been quite busy on these WC threads. Never understood the concept of "I don't like your sport, so I am going to try to muddle up your thread about it."
1 - 1 in regulation after 94 minutes.
Adriano was also booked in the game against Ghana.
Come on Deutschland!!!!!
These 'UK Off-tube commentary' guys are hilarious.
The terrible thing is there are two other appalling teams in the same half of the draw in Ukraine and Italy so if Argentina lose, one of these bozoes will reach the final.
I think the Argies will get punished for their negative tactics.
I certainly hope so.
However, I agree that anything can happen.
I loved that the ref yellow carded Rodriguez for diving. The sad thing, is that if he didn't so obviously seek out the penalty he might have actually gotten one.
Look out for more cheap diving around the box.
What is the link for Off Tube? I can't take much more of the Eurosport commentary.
Is that Talksport you're listening to?
It was as much a penalty as the Italian one was against the Aussies.

But I think there is a delay (according to other posters on earlier threads).
