Oh hey, now that wasn't nice...I was saving that
Mrsnad
I wouldn't take it if it were lying on the side of the road!
;-D
Here's some good info for your neck of the woods...

Hey, you know I planted those cukes on that net-like fencing? One of the actual cucumbers grew through the fence a bit and now it's hugh with the fence growing into it!
I'll try to get a picture...it's pretty funny.
The bean teepee now!
Sevin
once it's in there, will that still work?
Mrsnad
We always used styrofoam or plastic cups, turned upside down, to keep the critters out. A piece of pvc pipe would work, too, and you can get that down even further into the dirt.
Just got back from my annual mammo. YIKES! Well at least they said everything looks good, so I don't have to do THAT for another year.
Two people are "watching" my Saxon Phonics K kit! No bids yet, but them watching is a good sign! They might snipe it.

Here's my other two...no bids on them either, but there is still time.

That's gonna be a nice shady spot in your back yard!
Yes, and I still have one straight neck yellow squash out there producing.
And I have the entire produce drawer in my fridge stuffed with squash...we were getting about sick of it anyway. We still eat squash every day! Ha ha!
I'm monitoring the straight neck carefully...perhaps it's resistent? It would be good to keep in mind for next year to see if it resists the borer again.
The butternut "is" resistent, because the borer needs a hollow stemmed squash plant to live in...and butternuts have a solid stem, apparently. But alas, they aren't a summer squash. It's as different as apples and oranges.
Fiver loves to hang out in there under the blue chair...
It should if you can get it where the borers are.
just read the link 2J posted (see post 802) and it will help if you get them before they get in.
Mrsnad
Fiver's cousins nipped some of my beans.
Here is the entire plant, for future reference. And this spot is where I believe a squash vine borer has entered...see the granular stuff on the inside and the split?
I think I might have Steve slice it gently and see if we can get it out. It might kill the plant, but like I say...we're nearly sick of squash! Heh!
I can't wait till the beans flower! The vines are nearly to the top of the teepee (though they're not real leafy up that far yet.)
How will they flower? White flowers like peas? Will they start at the bottom or something?
I've never grown Kentucky Wonder beans. C is thrilled, got real excited when I told her what they were. Apparently they were her and her dearly-departed mother's favorite bean. She said she hasn't been able to find them at the fruit stands in a few years.
She irritates me, but I guess I'll probably give her some beans. Since they mean so much to her.
They have white flowers...not as big as pea flowers, though. They usually flower all over.
I found another bunny burrow - square in the middle of one of my beds. No bunnies yet. I'm going to encourage them to inkibate elsewhere.
