Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Then world behind and home ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

It isn't just size. It's behavior.
A dog that comes charging up in happiness is the same to her as a dog charging up to rip her face off. :-D
I think it's because most dogs are at eye-level to her.

I'm looking forward to the LCD. This big old CRT is now 7 years old and is starting to fail.

You're wise. A dog that come charging up in happiness might turn that into something else if it gets distressed over an anxious reaction!
We're off! Taking the jedis to the SA for a 2 hour swim.

It isn't just size. It's behavior. Let's try to keep this a family thread.

Sounds like fun! Hug the boys for me.
This doggie comes running up very submissively - head down, tail swishing low, licking lips.
Her real test would come when she meets Gidget, Queen Of All She Surveys.

Just fair warning for you to consider, she may become more dog when she's out of that environment... might become a lot more hyper. Aussies are a fast working dog. The secret code in dog ads is cryptic, but they want someone to take her to an obedience class... that' a clue. I'd sign her up for one as soon as you get her home. It's a really good way to get her immediately into her new role too. It's not so much that you don't know how to train her... it's that without a class, no one spends the amount of time and focus on it as they should. Myself included :~)

I agree. Aussies need a job and barring that, they need solid training and lots of exercise.
I don't have a problem with training classes - I'm a big fan. My main concern is temperament because not all dogs can handle 4-year olds.
If she can help me herd the kids, all the better! As a matter of fact, it's one of things I'd train her to do with a "round them up" command.

Heh... I'm reminded of the 4H obedience show I watched once where there was a really little girl showing a Corgi. During the heeling excercise, the dog nipped her heels constantly. She was in shorts, and her ankles were actually red! not blood, just red. The dog wasn't heeling, he was ~herding~.

Just fair warning for you to consider, she may become more dog when she's out of that environment... Heh...that definitely happened with Cisco. He's still the same dog, still has the same submissive behavior...but once he was away from that twenty-four hour a day commotion and stress, he was a lot more energetic. Remember I thought he was oldish?
Speaking of obedience classes, have you seen that lady's ad recently, Hair?

I haven't... and it may be a bad sign that she's not in the phone book... maybe she's gotten out of it, maybe she's changed the name of the business... It's a bit irritating that I can't seem to remember her name.
Maybe we should just take a drive out there some evening... could go tonight after work if you want.

Sure, I'd like to see what her place is like! If it's still there.
And if not...well, that's a part of this area I haven't explored yet, so it'd be neat to drive around it a little anyway.
I still have an ad a gal at work gave me for another trainer in the area...but I'm not sure what her methodology is. There's a spiel in it about how evil choke collars are, so I dunno.
