The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh...that's on my way to the church I was goin' to. It's a rather corny name, but you do remember it!

You're right. My brain is dehydrated. They give you those little cups of beverages.... but I'm a 2qt-a-day kinda gal. The cupful is just enough to take the edge off.

Any other Civilization IV gamers in the Hole?

I've been wondering what the African-sounding song played while your game is setting up was all about.

I just found out.

It's The Lord's Prayer, in Swahili.

I'm vey stuned.

Travelogue moment:

Socially awkward guy in yellow shirt: "Do you have headphones?"
Me: "Yes."
SAGIYS: "Cool. If you want you watch my movie with me on my..." pulls electronic case out of carry-on "... 7" screen on my portable DVD player."
Me: "No thank you. I have a 15" screen on my laptop in my bag. I think I'm having an ipod and book kind of day today."
SAGIYS: "Ok. But it's got Richard Chamberlin in it. Classic!"
Ah, Hum. He proceeds to watch the movie. Don't know why he bothered with headphones. The sound was so loud I could hear the movie over my own movie. Sleeping seemed to work... until he *touched* me. He tapped my arm when the plane started its descent into ELP.
SAGIYS: "It's over."
ME: "What's over?"
SAGIYS: "The flight."
ME: "Not yet. There's still about 15 minutes left."
SAGIYS: "Oh." He leans over me to look out the window. "Is that it? People live there?"
ME: "No. They live in town."
SAGIYS: "It looks dry."
ME: "Actually, I've never seen it so green this time of year."
SAGIYS: "Where's the, you know, desert?"
ME: "Well, if you're looking for sand dunes and camels, you'll have to go to Yuma."
SAGIYS: "Where's that?" Then he sees the mountains. "There's mountains in the desert."
ME: "Sometimes. They're really pretty. You should get a map and explore a bit." I name a few towns any tourist should check out - including Ruidoso which has a Casino.
SAGIYS: Waves his hands around in the air. "Negatory! Negatory! That's a bad idea."
ME: "Ok"
SAGIYS spends the rest of the flight playing air guitar.
ACK!!

I shouldn't rejoice in benefiting from your tragedy...but thanks for the carafe!! Woo-hoo! And the basket piece fits, too...I'm not sure what I'd ever need two for, but it does fit. In case one gets lost, I guess.

Well, or you could load both baskets for those days when you really need rapid-turnaround on that second pot :~D

Oh there was much, much more. The fella talked my ear off. I got the feeling he watched a lot of Star Trek and didn't get out much.

He was from Miami. And had to change his watch *twice* 'cause he crossed *two* time zones! He was so excited - lol. I was a killjoy when I explained that I didn't bother.

Er, make that I could hear his movie over my own *music*.

So long as I let the steam out before attempting to load the second basket...

Actually, she's okay.

We were all gone today so Nana goes out in the yard with Luke so he could play on his swingset. She thought she'd sit in the swing and watch him. Sat back too far and slid out on the ground...backwards.

She was there for about 15 minutes until Luke was able to get the neighbors to help her up.

I know. Once again it's frightening to think of what ~could~ have happened. She had her phone but couldn't reach any of us and didn't leave a message. I didn't know anything until I got home.

But it reenforces what we already knew. We can never leave her overnight again.

You could fall down the stairs too, so one could say none of us should ever be alone.

Worse could have happened, but it didn't and they handled it. I wouldn't worry about what could have been worse, we're all one freak accident from death. And that's a comforting thought :~)

Oh I know. Still, it's not wise for us to leave her overnight.

And she may feel afraid to be alone... That happens with a lot of old folks, but I'd try to not be, or encourage her being afraid. You've said before she's the most self-sufficient when she has to be, and isn't when there's others around to help her all the time. I wouldn't take that away completely :~)
