Living in the DC area, we see flights of these very often. You can hear the distinct rotor/motor sound before you see the low level flights. Impressive. Watching their bearing I can get a good idea of the destination.

It's only AF1 when the President is on board.

More than likely it was one of the fleet used for the President, but probably was there with a cabinet member of there for repairs.

I had my first "Raptor" sighting the day before yesterday. There is a big exercise going on (Northern Edge 2006) over at Elemendorf AFB in Anchorage. Anyway, I was out for a walk the other day when I saw two Raptors and an F-15 break out over the tops of the mountains and come screaming ( actually there was very little sound) down my little valley here in the mountains. They lit the burners, took a hard right and headed for Anchorage.

All I can say is WOW!

I've logged more hours than I care to admit in military aircraft. There's no safer place to be, IMHO.

I live near Killeen, Texas about 15 miles from Grey Army Air Force Base. The President would fly into Grey when coming home. This has now changed as they have proper security at Waco for him now. I was in my backyard and was puzzled as to why that 747 was so low as we have no commercial 747 traffic near here. I took another look at it and realized it was Air Force one. It is a beautiful aircraft. I did not see the F-16s but you can be sure they were up there someplace near.
