Nifong press release and email...
(Excerpt) Read more at wral.com ...
"Three guys grabbed Nikki, and Brett, Adam and Matt grabbed me. They separated us at the master bedroom door while we tried to hold on to each other."
"Brett came out to the car and spoke to Nikki and said get her out of here. Brett was carrying me on one side and Nikki on the other side. I kept telling them no."
CGM statements from a court TV poster. Not sure where he got it but he's reliable.
"Nifong's response is too carefully structured to be an off the cuff retort"
You went to the School of Conciseness...
In a single line you captured what I tried to say in 277;)

It was on the Abrams report I think. Susan also mentioned Magnums two versions on when she was raped. One version had her being raped with the door locked and the other had her being raped with the door cracked and men in the other room watching tv.
And maybe the team's group mentality was intimidating -- they'd often show up to parties and games en masse, a bunch of big, loud guys in lacrosse jerseys, all sharing the same inside jokes. If it was intimidating, they were largely unaware, and maybe that turned out to be a problem, too. When they discovered there were students and faculty harboring resentment, they were stunned. Duke, like any university, is a compilation of many subcultures, and the lacrosse players felt comfortable within theirs.
[bold mine]
I do take issue with the phrase 'group mentality'. How about 'the bonds formed among these team members?'
That being said, these kids are no different [ hear that Nifong? NO DIFFERENT] than any other group of college athletes. Many of these bonds will last forever. These 'hooligans' [as described by the nonaccusatory DA] are guilty of being a team, of working and playing hard and above all, something we should all be guilty of : standing up for the truth and with your friends.
I wonder if she produced the 'object' from her previous performance for the couple in the hotel room?
I hope the beotch that is the Exec. Editor of the NandO (Melanie Sill) sees this article so she can see what kind of damage her rag has done...
FYI
NG will do Duke next segment.
I saw that. She's still drinking the KoolAid. She's gonna drown in it, I guess...
Please fill me in. TIA :)
It was just a recap on NG's case alert. Doubt that she gave it 30 seconds.
She's interviewing Anderson Cooper about Brangelina. Barf...
It turns out that Nifong' possibly learned his election trick from Stephens.
In 1993 Stephens under pressure for how the DA's office was being run and possibly that it did not go after white offenders as aggressively as black offenders. He decided not to run for reelection, but rather to run for an open judgeship. But on the way out the door, ie, as he was running Stephens prosecuted a white man for manslaughter of a black youth. Stephens even chose to prosecute the white guy and handed prosecuting the two surviving buglars to a special prosecutor, saying he would have conflict of interest prosectuting both Seagroves and his buglars.
The facts are that Michael Seagroves was home with his ill infant son in March 1993. Three yonng black men broke into Michael Seagroves' garage. Mr. Seagroves shot them killing one of them and wounding another.
The jury hung on the case. Stephens won his judgeship. The NC legislature passed a defense of domicile law. One site I have found said the NC Attorney General stepped in and prevented a second trial and the charges were dropped.
The Courthouse Crowd at work...
That is exactly the type of info I was lookiong for.
Many thanks!
Wow! Thanks for more local color, so to speak. I so appreciate our NC posters. You all give the rest of us information that we couldn't get anywhere else.
That election trick is straight out of "Bonfire of the Vanities.: And how ironic that Wolfe should follow Bonfire with Charlotte Simmons less than two years ago. The man is truly prescient.
"But wouldn't it be nice to get to the bottom of some of these cases where things don't add up. What is wrong with contacting City Manager Patrick Baker and see if he still stands by his statement that nobody indicated the accuser changed her story. It seems ALL the evidence contradicts this. How could he be doing his job and not know this?!"
"There is something very fishy about the DA's and PD's handling of this case and it needs to be reported. Why am I going to have to read about it in Newsweek...this is your backyard! And, as a bonus, this might actually wake up the editorial department from their silence since the case of their beloved alleged victim tanked."

Thanks but I am not an NC poster. I just was reading an article today and there was a small paragraph on the Seagrove case and Stephens prosecuting Seagrove and having a special prosecutor prosecute the burglars. I checked the case out and put 1 and 1 together and realized it was the same MO being used by Nifong.
Thanks JLS. Now I know why Stephens name is so familiar to me. I followed that case closely when it happened. It should not have ever been in court. Now things are starting to be clearer. Nifong learned his lesson well on this by observing his mentor.
