The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good news though. My classroom inspection went really well. He seemed impressed that I had studied the regs and had everything he asked for. They can't tell you if you passed or not but I felt really good about it. Eddie said he told the administrator he liked my program and that it was needed in the community. We'll see

This is what I meant, what program are you starting?

Oh. I'm trying to open a Career School. I've been trying to get thru all the red tape sice Jan. I can see the light now, I think. I'll be training nurse aides and medication aides.

Good Morning. To all of you that are still working, it is Friday!

Looks like a pretty nice day today, then rain for the next few days again.

I wouldn't mind a little rain this week, but I don't think we're going to get it. It's summer, we're on our way to dryin' up...

I'm working but I did take Monday off. Mom is watching the horses Sun-Tues and I get to go away for a few days. Yahoo!

I do all chores every weekend while she is away with dad at their weekend place. I haven't gone away except to horse shows in 5 years because of working two jobs.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and a wonderful 4th of July!

Poor mom... I was foolish enough to farm sit for Bob once over the fourth of July weekend, before I had my own... ;~D

Hey, I've been thinking....:)

What's the biggest size bag you can carry on a plane? Jenny told me she saw a back pack at the store the other day that was pretty big, big enough that it also had a handle a wheels. If I can get everything in it, that might work especially since I could do some laundry while I'm there, and would keep me from waiting for a baggage check. We are going shopping today and I thought I'd check it out, but I need to know how big I can carry on??

Same here, working today but took Monday off. Going to get Jake and Blade shod Monday morning and try to ride afterwards. Gary goes on dayshift July 16th and his days off will change to Wed/Thurs. Had to decide betweent the worst of two evils. Graveyard vs dayshift, weekends off vs mid week days off. Kind of a damper on our riding but healthwise he needed to go to days. Guess Frog and I will be doing more riding together.

They have a little 'box' at the gate, and if your bag fits in that, you can carry it on. There's some discussion here (Airline Luggage Allowance Policies and Guidelines) about what the actual measurements can be.

When you go shopping, the bag itself may say whether it's within carry on size limits or not.

I'd say this... if you don't mind washing jeans a couple times and borrowing a jacket here so you don't have to pack one, you might get by with just a carry on, but don't stress about packing more and checking the bag either. It's not a big deal either way. The different kinds of shoes you might want, whether for walking or riding or sandals, might be the bigger space hog.

Mom and I split chores, but somehow she owns 2.5 of the horses and I own 1.5 of them, yet I live farther away and have to make at least 5 more trips a week there than she does.

I didn't even feel guilty telling her she was all on her own for a couple of days!

The back pack size should fit in the overheads, but it can be a hassle to have to keep up with it especially if you have to change planes. I usually check mine even if it is just an overnight trip. Bagage claim is not as bad as it used to be.

Thanks. The best part is that I still get to spend Saturday with my horses too. Dang if I'm not overly attached to those buggers.

One packing tip, don't know if you need or not, is you can fit a lot more in a bag if you roll your clothes instead of folding them.

I was just getting ready to post this. Learned that as a military dependent for many years. Wear your boots on the plane, pack tennis shoes, and pack them full of toiletries, undies, etc. Roll everything, not only saves space but saves wrinkles :) I can generally get a week's worth of clothes in a carry-on bag, under the seat, not overhead, because that's where my book and snacks are also.

Hoping you guys have a great time :)

I have a soft duffle I can fit a week's worth of clothes in too, if I roll everything tight. With her wrist, it'd be nice if she got one of the rolling kind.
