The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The very few times that George got loose that's what he did. My cats (Maine Coons) watched him while I locked up dogs and yelled at cats :)

When I had a cat and a bird, I carried a water gun.

I just used twist ties on the cage openings until I found a cage he couldn't get out off. He had learned to push up the doors.

Her cage is the one that belonged to my parrot. It's huge. She can't get out but she gets stuck trying. If I lock her up she dumps her water and food out. I figure if she wants out that bad, what the heck.

Have I mentioned that I really don't like birds? Truth is, they scare the daylights out of me. I wouldn't even go in my son's house if the parrot they had wasn't locked up.

LOL and snakes don't bother me a bit. We had two ball pythons for years and I bathed them and cleaned their cage.

Just catching up on my reading here. Some great pics of scenery and barn kitties.

Latest on Deuce: third laser procedure will happen today. He may need two more after this because not only is the darn mass so large, but it moves when he uses the non contact laser so he's constantly having to adjust. Right now there still isn't room for the foreceps down there too. Horse is tolerating treatment very well but it look like he may not be home until Tues, Oct 3rd. Might be sooner but not with our luck.

Will get some pics posted when this is done because this thing is sort of amazing. I've got this weird thing about not wanting to look at them more than necessary so won't think about scanning them until the doc says we're all done.

Oh, and the best news is that he feels positive this is a one time occurrance from a birth defect and this thing won't be coming back.

It's getting colder here too. High 60s to low 70s most days. I should count it as a blessing, cause it's just going to get colder. Very chilly here this morning.

My grandfather is hanging in there. He has his good days and his bad days. He requires a lot of care, which is a challenge because he doesn't think he does. So I'm torn between wanting to give him his dignity and not wanting to see him hurt himself. But I also think that he secretly likes to see "his women" (i.e my grandmother an myself) run around for him, the old bugger. ;-) I haven't had a chance to get up there during the work week this week because I've been job hunting and whatnot, but I'm going to try to get up there on Friday and this weekend.

You can spray some 24-D on them in the spring

See, that is what I used now. Maybe, I should have used Roundup to get a complete kill, then seeded. The directions only had formulas for large sprayers, even aerial. It was just a guess for me when I mixed. Oh well, at least that pesky swamp grass was killed.

How nice you are helping out your grandparents. A lot of young folk, would not want to be bothered. Are you planning on staying in that area? Is it hard to find a job in your field?

Nights are pretty cool here too, but the days are wonderful. Don't you just love fall!

Yup I plan on staying in the area. Boston and to the North are filled to the gills with jobs. I've gotten my fair share of calls for interviews but I've had to turn them down because of the way that things are right now. But I've made some contacts with people who will keep me in mind once I start the job hunt again.

A lot of young folk, would not want to be bothered.

Oh I won't lie. Sometimes when I'm really stressed out about it, I'll get cranky, just because I've had to work extremely hard for my degree, both academically and financially, and I was really excited to start working. I've had long arguments with myself at night, mostly not to let myself lose sight of what I want. I've found myself doing that lately, because I've had to take care of the here and now, and that leaves no time to worry about later. But, life isn't a straight line from point A to point B, and I just have to remember that. :-)

Yup, fall is my favorite time of year. The leaves haven't quite started to turn yet, but they will. There is a beautiful piece of wooded road in my town that just screams "Fall in New England" I can't wait to photograph it this year and post some pictures.

Your grandfather sounds like fun. I think it's something they are born with. My oldest grandson told me when he was four, that he liked to see his momma in the kitchen, cooking for them. You can get away with that when you are 4 or 94.:')

We are back up in the 90's but folks are a little concerned about a cold front yall are going to send us. They expect it to stall in the Gulf and make it ideal for a storm to develop. Not sure how that would work though.
