The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

'I was country when country wasn't cool'. Not too many beer joints played rock and roll when I was a kid:')

'I was country when country wasn't cool'.

Most women I have dated liked country music. When you first meet someone she would ask what kind of music do you like? I would answer rock and roll and she would say, Oh, I like all kinds of music. But when you turn her car radio on it was tuned to a country music station. : )

There is country music and then there is Country Music. I don't care for the old stuff or Willie. I'm more contemporary. My husband is hard core. We fight about which country muscic to listen to.:')

I liked Willie's "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." Also the one about the perfect C/W song, My Mama got run over by a damned old train. Don't know who sings it though.

Funny story.

We went out to eat tonight. It was really nice out when we got to the restuarant so we decided to eat on the outside covered patio, because it was lightening in the distance and it was pretty to watch.

Well we were pretty much finished eating when the rain came. Several of the parties at other tables got up and moved inside but we weren't getting any rain at all so we stayed out there and enjoyed the rain and lightening show. The wind picked up pretty good too, and the waitress were all running around trying to clear the tables that were catching rain.

There was a couple of men at a table next to us and I heard them ask a waitress if there was a tornado coming...she said she didn't know and left. They got up and stopped at our table and said something like, we noticed how calm you are sitting here, you don't think a tornado is coming, we are from Seattle and this weather seems pretty bad.

We assured them there was no tornado, and then of course, I had to tell them about being in Wa. this summer, and going to see the volcano, and how funny I think it is that they are afraid of tornados and I think they are nuts to live even in the same state as Mt. Rainer:)

It's a small small world:)

That is funny! Small world indeed :~)

When I come down there, I'd love it if you could show me a tornado... from a distance of course :~)

Well you know, like I told them, I've lived here 50 years and not seen one yet....

And if we keep the dates for a year from now, it's not really tornado season this time of year. Altho they are not unheard of this time of year.

Tonight was just a 15 minute thunderstorm that blew threw and now is gone. They are actually forecasting 90 degree temps tomorrow....but then back to normal.

Years ago I was in Nashville at a country bar that was in the basement of the Stockyard restaurant. I was sitting at a table with a group of my girlfriends when some guy brushed my chair and my jacket fell on the floor. I looked up and it was David Allan Coe, I was star struck (had my picture taken with him) and the whole time my friends are saying "who is that"? They hadn't a clue who he was.

My favorite now is Kenny Chesney....is it a sin to lust after someone who is the same age as your son? lol

But you live awful close to Rainer.

I've really been into watching all the volcano shows on Dis. this summer:) We saw one the other day that showed what they think will happen when Rainer blows, and they are certain it will sooner or later.

Some interesting facts: There is evidence that Mt St. Helens has blown lots of times over the years, but Rainer has only blown 4 times ever...

Those guys in the resturant tonight asked me if I knew what a "lahar" was (sp?) and I did from this show the other night:).

Anyway...it looks like the lahars could reach Tumwater......That all that area is built on past lahars.........But geeze wouldn't it be cool to be up in that state forrest we were in on the clear cut, when it goes....If you get warnings that it is going to happen, I think that is where I'd go:) What a sight that would be.

How exciting:') I have never been to Nashville. I was going to take my mom this year but she has had some medical problems with her husband. Kenny Chesney, huh? He's a flashy paint alright. :')

You Never Even Called Me By My Name

Written By Steve Goodman
As Recorded By David Allan Coe

WELL, IT WAS ALL
THAT I COULD DO TO KEEP FROM CRYING’
SOMETIMES IT SEEMED SO USELESS TO REMAIN
BUT YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN’, DARLIN'
YOU NEVER EVEN CALL ME BY MY NAME

YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME WAYLON JENNINGS
AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME CHARLIE PRIDE
AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME MERLE HAGGARD/ANYMORE
EVEN THOUGH YOU’RE ON MY FIGHTING’ SIDE

CHORUS:
AND I’LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME
AND I NEVER MINDED STANDING’ IN THE RAIN
BUT YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN’, DARLIN’
YOU NEVER EVEN CALLED ME BY MY NAME

WELL, I’VE HEARD MY NAME
A FEW TIMES IN YOUR PHONE BOOK (Hello, Hello)
AND I’VE SEEN IT ON SIGNS WHERE I’VE PLAYED
BUT THE ONLY TIME I KNOW
I’LL HEAR "DAVID ALLAN COE"
IS WHEN JESUS HAS HIS FINAL JUDGMENT DAY

REPEAT CHORUS

RECITATION:
WELL, A FRIEND OF MINE NAMED STEVE GOODMAN WROTE THAT SONG
AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
I WROTE HIM BACK A LETTER AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG BECAUSE HE HADN’T SAID ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT MAMA,
OR TRAINS,
OR TRUCKS,
OR PRISON,
OR GETTING’ DRUNK
WELL HE SAT DOWN AND WROTE ANOTHER VERSE TO THE SONG
AND HE SENT IT TO ME,
AND AFTER READING IT,
I REALIZED THAT MY FRIEND HAD WRITTEN THE PERFECT
COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
AND I FELT OBLIGED TO INCLUDE IT ON THIS ALBUM
THE LAST VERSE GOES LIKE THIS HERE:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUN NED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

CHORUS:
AND I’LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME
AND I NEVER MINDED STANDING’ IN THE RAIN
NO, A’ YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN’, DARLIN’
YOU NEVER EVEN CALL ME
WELL I WONDER WHY YOU DON’T CALL ME
WHY DON’T YOU EVER CALL ME BY MY NAME
