The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Maybe... but I'm not sure he can get in there, unless he climbs it... the cat-proofing ~might~ keep him out too... And I'm not sure he'd venture that close to the house, the dogs probably would keep him a little wary.

Well he must've climbed the field fence to get in the back forty. But I guess he could've dug under too. Those apples were probably what was drawing him. Maybe if you dump them outside the fence he'll stay out there and eat them. But then again, that may just draw more coons, so I don't know. My FIL had some guy come and set humane traps in his old chicken house because the coons were eating all his cow feed out there. He had it covered with a piece of metal and a cinder block on top and they managed to push it off anyways and get in the barrel. They're crafty little boogers. The guy who was trapping them was taking them to his property and setting them loose so they could hunt them with his coon hounds. I think he caught well over a dozen before he stopped, and I'm sure there's probably some down there again. There's just no feed down there right now.

We set the field fence off the ground several inches. He could go under it. The coyotes do.

Originally, I set it up like that so it'd be easy to use the weedwacker to cut grass and berry vines from growing on it. Cutting against the mesh just uses up lots of cord. But now I regret that, because the coyotes can get in and out so easy.

Have any of you seen that new bedding that is little pine pellets? Similar to Feline Pines

MissTargets, I bought some of that for the barn down at the cabin and I love it. It is so much easier to pick up the poop,I'm not throwing half of the bedding out now.

Those are cool pictures. I watched a show with The Aussie and some handicapped children but he seemed stiff and not sure what to say to them.

Wow... amazing. Is that really a storm-inspired tornado? Or a dust-devil from the heat?

Fire tornado
Finally, I had to link this photo of a fire tornado taken by wunderphotographer Photo5150. Some fires are able to create such a strong updraft with their extreme heat that the air rushing in at the surface to replace the air lifted creates a fire tornado. This is definitely the most awesome photo of a fire tornado I've ever seen!

So far, no fires near us - we got a lot of smoke yesterday, I believe from a fire in or near Auburn, CA.
