This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I'll wait to post the Chimney Rock pictures when the next page pops up. I hate to bog this one down with so many pictures. I know it gets aggrivating for people on dial-up when there's so many. That's why I don't post from home very often.
I've seen grown trees moved, but they use some kind of special truck with what looks like a giant folding post-hole digger on top of it that just scoops the tree, roots and all, out of the ground. I'll bet that's expensive though, but I'd like to see it done sometimes. Other than that, I've no clue, but I'll bet the tree doesn't make it because when you pull it up, you'll break the tap root and it'll probably die. It might be worth trying, but it'll be a lot of work.
You've got mail.
Watching them as they come in.... pretty cool! I'll upload them in a bit for the others.
All of them have sound too, mostly music, but you can hear them talking too. Their sound man is really tallented at picking songs with words that really go along with what is being done.
What are you watching, videos?
I've been out mowing, but it is getting to warm now. I can only make a few passes then have to come in to cool off....very depressing...getting old...and not being able to do what you could in the past:\

Sorry you're poopin' out. I am sympathetic! The same things happens to me with hard work any more, particularly if it's hot.
Speaking of poop. Can you identify this poop? Found in my back forty. On my screen it's ~about~ actual size. It's entirely made up of seeds... mostly blackberries.
I know what it is... but it threw me for a loop for awhile searching google images of animal droppings.
LOL!!! Looks like "Name that Poop" has made it to FR. Is it coyote poop, or maybe deer poop?
Well! It's too big to be bird poop or any kind of small furry animal. You don't have bears around there that close do you? But then again, it's not really big enough to be bear poop. Badger maybe?
I don't know how big it is on your screen, but it's about the size of a big dog poo. Too big to be a bird, you're right. Want me to tell you?
Look here :~)
Yeah - I guess I didn't expect raccoon either. I haven't seen any raccoons, but I know they're around, and I guess they'd eat blackberries, which are ripe right now. I don't know if I thought they'd bury it like a cat or what, but I've never known raccoons by their droppings or given any thought about what it might look like. Deer rabbit and coyote, I've seen back there, but nothing with berries in it. I associate that with bears, and it really set me back wondering what to do if I had a bear around. We had one a few years ago just a mile from here that was repeatedly spotted along the freeway, eating berries like the cars weren't even there. I was concerned enough about him then that I stopped leaving garbage outside.
We do have possums too. Remember the mummified possum the dogs drug out from under our house?
Oh yeah, I rememeber that now. I don't know why I thought you didn't have possums.
All I can say is that must've been one big-@$$ raccoon to leave a turd that size! He'd be more than a match for most large dogs. Tangling with a large boar raccoon is about like wrestling with a live chainsaw.
Agreed! Just another reason to try to get the cats in before dark, because even the trees would be no escape from him.
And I think a dog would not be left unmarked. I hope he's just after berries and apples and doesn't start checking out the barn.
Have you got your feed in metal cans? Since I lost my last good barn cat, I've been overrun by rats in the feed room and I've had a possum or two get in there too. They've gnawed holes in the lids of the plastic garbage cans that I was keeping the cow feed in when we were fattening up the bull for slaughter. Luckily by that point we had already hauled him to the packers so I could let my FIL have the feed and garbage cans back. My horse feed is in a 55 gallon metal drum with a lid so they can't get into it, but I've got several supplements and things like that in plastic tubs and I sure don't want them getting into them. I need to get some more cats but I put out some poison under the floor before I left on my trip just to try to keep them under control before I did. I hated to but I didn't want them tearing up everything I've got either.
The horse grain is in a very secure container... a latching hard plastic box like a truck box.
The bird/squirrel food is only in a plastic bin with a lid... he could get in there and tick me off :~\
I just started an upload of all your Parrelli clips, and it said it was going to take 3 hours to upload so I canceled it for now. I don't think they're really that big, I think our internet is a little boggy today, but let me work on it a little later... either save them smaller, or try the upload again late tonight when I don't care how long it takes :~)
I'll bet he finds that corn you put on the squirrel feeder.
3 hours sounds outrageous! I don't think they were that big either. Most of them were around 5 meg a piece.
I gotta ask, did you sell advertising space on your tagline? I've seen people do that with their cars. Heck, one guy even offered to sell ad space on his forehead, so I know it's done. I was just curious.
