The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL - I love that. Yes, no offense Hair, but Arab riders on endurance are a snotty lot too.

None taken, I'm sure they are :~)

Ooops - I do a good imatation of him when I go down steep hills. I always thought you wanted to shift your weight to the rear end of the horse going down

You do want to lean back, or at least keep your body vertical to the ground, but if you have your feet forward and weight in the stirrups, the weight's actually being carried forward. So that's why they want you to keep your legs back.

I've never been to an organized ride where at least one horse didn't get loose and create a lot of havoc. :~)

I was at the Margarette McKinny trailhead (the larger parking area we went to the second day) when a Arab horse all full of himself came trotting right at me and Bay as I was riding out. I jumped down and held on to Bay, and grabbed this guy's lead line, but I really did not want to be handling both of them because they were both on the muscle and barely touching the ground. I started trying to lead both horses back to the campsites where he came from, and a woman comes running out, barefoot in a t-shirt and underwear like she just climbed out of bed. I was with Bob. She just took the horse and went back, barely a word of thanks for grabbing him, she was so mad, and embarrassed.

I forgot to answer your questions about if any of the Yahoo group was there....Yes they were, but nothing was every said. I talked to a few of them as friendly as if nothing had ever been said, so hopefully I can go back to "lurker" mode:) at the ride.

Celia did say tho, she thought it was great that with my win, they all know who I am, and they know, I do know a little bit about the sport:).

Very true :~) I just wondered if you thought they recognized who you were.

I'm just thrilled that all the work you do to prepare for these rides finally paid off. It does matter, all that conditioning you do. :~)

How'd Celia do?

The owner of this stud was very embarrassed too. I felt sorry for her, but she was in the wrong....The whole weekend she was gripping about this guy parking his little mare pony close to her stud...The NATRC rules are, studs are suppose to behave...she thought this guy should move...but to be honest, he was a late comer, and there just was no place else to put the mare...the place was packed. There were other studs there who never made a sound with mares around them. Anyway she was doing all the gripping and then her horse is the one that got loose and caused all the trouble, altho, she still felt it was the mares owners fault...it was a mess. Once the stud was caught, (Harley was next to the mare) I just retreated to my RV, and watched the rodeo from a window:)

She's responsible for the stallion, period. If she's going to blame other horses for turning her horse on, she shouldn't have a stallion.

Thanks:)

One of the ladies from the group, pointedly came up and introduced herself to me...I knew which one she was from the group, because she signs her full name...I think she was hoping for a reaction from me...I just told her my name, hi, how are you, have a good ride, and went on my way..

Celia got 4th place horse, and 5 place rider. She rides open, so we weren't competing against each other.

You're exactly right....If he can't have mares by him, she shouldn't bring him.

But I was very discreet, and kept my opinion to myself:). As long as the horse didn't go after Harley, I wasn't getting involved.

Mack filmed it, I will watch it tomorrow, really tired now to watch something that serious. I loaded the few pictures I took of the wedding....this is everyone waiting for the bride and groom to show up. We had just finished the ride briefing.

The bride and groom.

And that reminds me, how'd the HH wedding go this weekend? Where are the pictures?

"I admit though I like halter weight on horses. I cring when I look at endurance horses, they are lean, mean, running machines but they all look hungry to me"

I'm with you on that one, although my chunky monkeys couldn't do a half mile of an endurance course.

Was Tuffy in the color class? He sure is alot prettier than the paint that won.
