The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I can't believe you're having to spray a 3 acre pasture

Hey - I'm all about that... I'm a pro at using too small a tool for the job :~D

We hate our sprayer too. It clogs up every 5 minutes and makes us want to just huck the thing.

MT>>>> Glad your new mares are feeling good enough to buck when they get out!

...Goose has a very nice looking hip:)

Whirl actually has the bigger butt of the two, but she wasn't cooperating with the picture taking so you can't really tell it. She has the more even temperament too. Goose is a little spooky around strange things, but he'll still listen to you even through a spook. Whirl will just walk right up to something. She's got more natural curiosity, like her brother Bob, but she's not as much of a pest as he is. She doesn't seem to enjoy tearing things up like he does.

I'm going to have to watch Goose though because the other day when I took Truly out of the pasture to work on her feet and left him in there, he ran the fence and ran the fence and found a low spot out by the garden and came over it like it wasn't even there. It just blew me away. Then he came prissing his little butt up through the garden and back yard like he owned the place. As long as his mama is where he wants her to be, he's happy to stay in there, but I gotta fix that spot or he's gonna be thinking that he can jump over any fence and I sure don't want that.

I'm still just incredulous when I see you mowing grass that deep with a push mower! Jeez!

Well, it is a pain, we rarely let it get that deep anymore unless we're just really slackin.

Once your push mower gives out, you should get one of the weed trimmers on wheels, a lot easier, but you still get the exercise:)

Making my grocery list for my trip. Shopping today, and then coming home and packing up the RV. We emptied everything out of it thinking we would sell it, but have decided to keep it for awhile longer.

Then I have to practice Harley on lunging...I was going to do that yesterday but crashed after that medicne. I'm thinking of going on a very short ride tomorrow, just to see how he is doing. I've been giving him that supplement that is high in fat for an energy booster. I want to make sure he's not too energetic:)

Tomorrow I will do the little bit of cooking I have to do, we are suppose to bring a covered dish for a pot luck they are having one night. Then give him his bath. Celia is suppose to be here by 9:00 Fri. morning.

She found out the other day that the ride is full, 60 riders...that usually doesn't happen at this ride. It's can be a tough ride, lots of rocks and hills, and a lot of the TX people don't come because of that. They don't like all our rocks. I like full rides, more competition.

They are well worth the money when you have to do jobs like that.

I'm thinking of getting one for my kids as a together gift for Christmas, so they stop running off with mine:). Beings as they are next door neighbors, it wouldn't be hard for them to share it. They don't need it for as much as I do with it, so between the two families it should last just fine.

That's awesome, I love waterfalls. Even in the game I play, they have these really beautiful graphics of waterfalls.

Batteries are at the top of the list for the camera. This time no matter what, I'm taking lots of pictures...I'm going to remember if I have to stand in line at observations to get pictures of people doing it.

I'm pretty confident he'll be OK, at least I think I have made improvements in his back problems...that's really so far been the only problem he has had, and I can't really blame him for that....it's not been a "fault" of his, just tack problems, and I "think" I have those fixed now.

I've thought about that! I'll probably let them both stay with their moms over the winter, then move them both over to the other barn with their brothers and sisters. They'll pitch a fit, but there's better fence over there.

I think in general, you've got less worries this time. (knock on wood). You're just ready!

Pictures of others doing the obstacles would be great, would like to see it.

That rig makes me droll. Problem is the pasture is completely boxed in now. We would have to tear down a section, to get equipment out there. We did things sort of half arsed here. The pasture should have been sprayed before the fence was up, but the weather was bad, so I could not spray. I checked on a unit I could of rented, to go behind my garden tractor or the compact one, but can't now. If not for the mosquitoes and the problems with the sprayer, it's not too bad. So I better get my rear moving and get it done!

Hey, did Ol' Doc Eyebrows say anything about whether or not he thought your rash was a Splenda reaction or just poison ivy? I was just curious.

He said it was poison ivy, but then, I never mentioned anything about the splenda. Whatever it is, it's getting better, and I'm not eating anymore splenda. If I get this again now, I'll know it was just poison ivy.

Well, I don't blame you for being safe. Saving a few bucks on a bale of hay can cost you bigtime in vet bills later. I can still get hay here at the feed stores, but it is expensive.

There is a guy who runs a large truck repair/parts business in Farmersville who sometimes brings in hay. I bought 50 bales of prairie hay from him in June at $6 a bale, and it was some of the nicest prairie hay I ever bought. The horses ate it up. But, he ran out before I got back from Virginia. My daughter said he had the sign up again so guess I better stop by and see what he has.

I've got a headache. I have been marketing. I always thought those people were just the pretty people. The butterflies, you know? It's work though. My husband better not come home tonight and looks around with that snotty frown and ask what I did all day.
