The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yes, she is comfortable riding and now is comfortable on Quest. I'm pretty sure she didn't believe Bob at the beginning that he wouldn't buck.

I am exhausted, but enjoyed the visit from everyone (including a friend of my son's up from Arizona who dropped by today with another of Adam's friends). And I got my kitchen cleaned and made egplant parmagana (sic) for dinner.

I've now made fried eggplant and this dish tonight - I am still not a fan of it. I'll have to figure out some way to make it that spices it up a little.

Did you and hubby get any traveling done? I had to laugh, reading about the places you hadn't gone to yet. We are so bad about that. We get to play tourist when someone comes to visit but other than that, rarely get out to some of the incredible places around here.

What great pictures. You did get out. I no sooner posted my reply when I saw your link.

How do you suppose they plant that? They must have a pattern of some type but how do they translate that into acres of corn?

I've seen him out there plowing the pattern... I suppose there's sophisticated mapping software, but it's a marvel to me how they stay oriented.

There's pictures here that show it when the corn was just starting to come up:

What a great place. Does he sell the pumpkins also? And what about the sunflowers? The corn must go for animals at the end of the season. What a good idea. A successful farmer :)

Thanks. Those poles work wonders with young ones and horses that won't stand tied. And they can't get hurt on them.

Yup, sells pumpkins too, and some corn... not sure what else, but I think they make a LOT more on the maze than they ever do selling produce :~). Successful indeed :~)

Now if we could just figure out how to translate that to the horse business. :)

Hope you don't mind me buttin in, but I'm greatly interested in your new rescues---I've done this myself a couple of times. The last one I bought, at an auction, was at least 400 lbs under weight, didn't think she would survive the 40 mile trip home. I had the vet up, on emergency call the night I got her home, and he said not to worm her immediately, the wormer could kill her, and very light on the grain, suggested beet pulp with molasses soaked in warm water. He suggested first thing, get her on iron supplement,(red-cell), and twice weekly shots of Vitamin E complex, and then he said he knew I'd pull her through and not to worry. Three months later he was back up, for coggins tests, and asked what-ever happened to the starved mare I'd had. I told him she was standing right behind him in the pasture, and he turned around and shook his head, and said he never would have believed it, that he wouldn't have given me "a plug nickle" for her chances of making it. Horses are wonderful resilient creatures. Funny thing, that old mare, (who turned out to be a very well bred Paso-fino named Seda de Omega) practically worshiped me for the rest of her life. Everyone said that she knew when I took her out of that horrible place she knew that I saved her life.
Thanks for sharing your new "family" with us. Brings back a lot of memories.

I don't know why, but I would have thought they had been doing this longer then just since 2000.

They're pretty good at it for only have been doing it 6 times:)

I think Night Walker thinks I'm his momma too. He won't go to anyone else but me. He's sitting on my shoulder right now. I put my hand out and he steps on and climbs up. I gave him some cut up peppers this morning and he was singing :')

It sounds like he does. Have you posted any pictures of him yet? I missed them if you did. So, when do you start your classes?
