This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yes, you will get them back in shape. And in less time than you think. Remember weekly pictures :)
Gosh, I hate seeing this sort of thing...It's so good of you to take them in.
Becky
I'll really glad you have those horses now.
The people across the street are having a horse show today or maybe it's a clinic. Then some friends came down from Fallon with two paints and Janelle brought her two mares over. Old Sonny is keeping an eye on all of them but calm and quiet which is nice. Quest is out working on one ring, ignoring all the action around him, and everyone else is sleeping in the sun.
There are horses tied to both patience poles, horses being desensitized to llamas, etc. And across the street, popping sounds - maybe a target pistol or something.
This one is Sable, she is the 10 year old. If you notice her lip, both of the horses have that swelling from licking the salt blocks, almost half way. We took them away from them.
New pictures one month from now.
We took our goat to the farmer a few doors down. He has 3 other female goats. Billy was bad and butting everyone and jumping on Alison. Plus he stunk!
How come everyone else is out but Tuffy is locked up? He grounded? :')
They may be yawning if they are anemic.
I imagine they will both be ouchy on their feet for awhile once they are trimmed.
I am so glad you got them, even though it's already cost you a bit and undoubtedly will cost a good deal more. They really need a good home.
Hey, your billy goat probably thinks he landed in heaven. They do stink so bad, I remember that from when Adam and Tracey were raising and showing Alpines.
No, Tuffy isn't actually grounded. He's just figured out he's male with a capital M and is throwing all sorts of fits because he can't get out to beat up the geldings and breed the mares. If he wasn't a show horse, I'd turn him out with Sonny for a few minutes to learn some manners. He's not nearly as tough as he thinks :)
I smile when I read about his antics:')
He is such a pill sometimes. I was looking at him on the washrack earlier today. He's getting so big but behaves like such a child sometimes.
Here are some pictures
Three year old paint at the front patience pole, Janelle's app gelding at the back one. He is marked a bit like Lacey. Two girls working in the ring behind them.
Quest
With all the fuss around, he's listening to Janelle
And standing, watching the horses being ridden in the big ring.
And Sonny watching it all.
It's game time, talk to you tomorrow.
I think you're right to give Maddie and Sable some time to settle in and settle down. They probably feel overwhelmed right now and if they could pinch themselves, probably would be doing that too to make sure they aren't dreaming.
Yes, definately warm here today, upper 80's I believe. Truly, it won't take time at all to get them back in shape. They both look healthy and I think they are going to be beautys when they fill out.
Good. I look forward to that! Actually in the better light they look better than they did in the other pictures. There's meat on them, just not enough. I've seen worse.
Janelle looks comfortable riding.
Thanks for the update, you sure did have a busy day there! Quest and Janelle look like they are coming along really nicely! I like him a lot :~D
