The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

That's reasonable. At any rate, one the unusual ways horses can get into trouble, and leave you guessing as to what to do.

My son says if I buy some land near and let him put a mobile home on it, he will watch the place. It's a thought but I don't know about that though.

Well, it sounds like a good deal for you both, unless there's something particular that causes you pause.

So she'd be 6 by the time any house was on it... Are you concerned that he won't be able to keep her out of the temptations? I agree it'd be a challenge, but lots of people have raised kids around horses, most of the kids better off for it :~) I've had good luck here with visiting kids, just with hot wire! :~)

She'd be a great resource there if she became a horsey kid... she could grow into helping to feed, clean up and, most important to a kid, exercising them :~)

They are fragile, for being so big and strong, physically and mentally, IMO:)

...I don't like boogery horses, been dumped off them too many times:)

Well, just to let you know what he was calling "boogereyness" was when he rode her at a rack within a foot of a big yellow road sign and she cocked an ear at it and side-stepped maybe 6 inches further over when she went past it, and he was like "Did you see that? I hate that!" and I was like "You gotta be kidding, that's nothing!". But he also said that she jumped sideways if something ran out of the bushes at her, like a dog or something, but I haven't known too many horses who wouldn't, especially young ones. I can fix boogereyness with enough wet saddle blankets. I'm glad that he's that thorough, but sometimes he's a bit TOO extreme.

...I've never had one spook yet at a snake, and have come across plenty...

Heh, BladeRider's horses do. You'll have to get her to tell you about the time that Blade spooked at his own pee running down hill.

Well, I passed the math mastery, so one stressful thing crossed off my list!

The hospital I will do my clinicals at this semester is where all the rich folks in Plano, TX, go. It has all private rooms, menu-style gourmet food selections, and 30-inch LCD TVs with Internet in every room. Patients can view some aspects of their care via the screens.

Maybe I won't be packing a bag lunch every day after all. Bet the cafeteria is pretty darn good!
