The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I just went over to the HH thread and clicked on the link to the HH site itself and got the whole "ACCESS DENIED to sites classified as WEAPONS" deal. So I don't know if they've tightened up their filters here or if something changed recently on HH because I used to could go there.

I can't access the Hobbit Hole site through the hospital's firewall. The full-time net nannies in HR make sure you can't access online porn or job sites, and apparently anything that might seem offensive.

But that's okay, because I use their open wireless portal, and can go everywhere without reports being generated every day for every single person who used the internet, down to the last second.

Well you're a braver person then I am, I don't like boogery horses, been dumped off them too many times:), not being boogery is a top priority for me when I buy one.

But I'm looking forward to pictures, and your first ride on her:)

Yeah. Those are my concerns too. Right now I've got it cush. I'm not growing like I want in my sport but I know if I'm dragging someone is going to feed and watch them for me. It's just a piece of undeveloped, plain jane property. All the land is that way around here. I could go 4 or 5 hours up for a lot better and cheaper, but would I? This is close and workable. I should have bought it 2 years ago when prices were lower. I didn't though so....What I need is to lease or have a 6 month payment delay with a good down payment. I can't afford stables and notes. That would give me time to get it horse ready (fence, water, shelter etc) That's workable.
Unsupervised is the problem. I would pitch a tent but my husband happy here so unless I leave him over horses (which is another option:') I won't be moving there. I thought about maybe renting a space for an adult in a mobile home, just to watch but not take care of them. I don't know. I haven't figured that out yet. Last night I was thinking of all kinds of wicked things to keep people away but I don't know about legality.

It was wonderful here today. I rode this morning, and it was just barely in the 70's when we got back, suppose to be the same in the morning.

OK, I thought she was the beginner rider you have been talking about. Sorry. If that is how she rides and she's successfull...well that's what counts in the end.

I see... Well getting it fenced will be a major undertaking as it is, then. You can go a long way toward both safety and security by the way you fence it and the kind of shelter you build. Small mesh fencing is expensive, but more critter and climber proof and it's safer than barbed wire. Lots of design considerations can make it as good as it can be.

Would this arrangement be temporary, or do you think down the road husband will want to move there?

I think I could persuade him but that wouldn't be right. If I buy it, then there is plenty of time for us (saddle club) to figure out how we want to set it up:') I'm probably better where I am at but I'm sick and tired of the stable scene.

Well, if you move them out somewhere, you're very tied to it seven days a week... Like I am, I guess, but you do have some freedom now...

I'd think you might find a happy medium... different smaller boarding stable, or an empty pasture with a barn you drive by close to the house you could perhaps rent?

Well, I'm not going to do anything fast and am not going to get stressed about this. Eddie and I agreed several months ago to buy some land and I've been looking. If I never do anything with it, it's an investment. It's not getting cheaper and I don't think God is making any more. Things work out. An ideal solution (for me) would be to move but I wouldn't do that to my husband. It has to be both our dreams. Who knows. It might turn into his dream too. In the meantime I can still have my cabin and play though:') Don't worry, ok?

No riding here, we're lazy :~)

Did get a tiny little squall, made the horses all run in anyway, but didn't end up being enough - yet - to even keep down the dust.

Nice pictures:) Where's Cyn?

I had to finally had to put up that temporary hot wire to keep Rocky in. The last few days he's been cribbing. The cut on his head is really healing fast. It's all closed up, but still has a scab. It will be another week or two before I can put his collar back on. He'd kill him self before then. He's not real happy being penned up, but, oh well...

I had to pen Harley up in his run too. Stormy is here, and today they got to fighting over the panels...Harley rear up and got a leg over the top. He didn't hurt him self, but I'm not taking chances. Stormy will be here till Fri. It won't hurt him to be penned up a few days.

I mowed a bit this evening. Things sure grew up just since the rain we got. We went to town for supper and stopped by the building and played ping pong a bit. Mack just got the table last week. I've never played that, and it's alot of fun...something new and different.

That was my day:)
