This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
No, I haven't. Can you send me a link?
I'm thinking about trying this on Tuffy for his next reset. He's really hating having nails driven in his feet.

If you join the group over there, they'll send you several e-mails with a lot of good information from their files, but there's tons more that you can research, plus photos and case histories. Lots of interesting stuff if you've got an EC/IR horse, or even if you think you might.
Looks interesting! Any idea what they'd cost to apply each time?
They have a message board over there similar to the one on the Farrier Forum, but they're much more strict about staying on the EC/IR topic because the membership is HUGE, plus there are several equine nutritionists and vets and hoof care specialists over there and I think they're actually gathering research data from some of the case histories. If needed, the nutritionist will do personal consultations, for a small fee.
Hmmm.... He looks like a nice all around horse. What's behind the mixed feelings? That you don't think you'll enjoy or bond with another horse, or that you don't have time or interest?
Well, I'm paying $240 a reset for Tuffy's wedge shoes and pads and I asked the farrier if the price was comparable. He said right now the glue-ons are more because of the way they have to buy them, in kits containing all the supplies for one set of shoes. He doesn't need all the supplies, just the shoes, and he's trying to buy them in bulk. He said if he can buy them that way, they'll be comparable to what I'm paying now. Said he should know in 2 weeks.
I don't think Bay'd get past the plastic bag on his leg :~)
LOL!!! I never thought about that. A leg-eating bag, HORRORS!
HOLY CRAP! Hopefully there'll be some way for you to get a break on the price. How many organs have you already sold to keep Tuffy in shoes? ;o)
I have one kidney and part of a liver left...
Not much ruffles Tuffy's feathers. I could set him on fire and he'd probably just stand there, wondering where the smoke was coming from.
Bay doesn't like plastic bags :~D
Oh well, I guess blowin' and snortin' keeps and Arab-horse young :~)
After my experience with the rain poncho on Blade I am sure he would not enjoy that horse eating bag either! Would have to sneak up on him with it first.
George is a total freak about plastic bags. He will react violently, jerk right out from under you. Tuffy will try to eat them.
Oh, he's a gorgeous horse, young and not really that expensive if he does what they claim. You'd love having him :)
He looks really nice to me, too. Certainly worth a go-see.
The mixed feelings are, will I always compare a new horse to my old one. Do I really want to take the time to take care of one. Even thou, I retired and have plenty of time. They are a lot of work. Am I too old myself, to even think about going that route. The kids always go to horse shows and I don't have anyone around the neighbor to ride with anymore. That is why I stopped going to trap shooting tournaments. My traveling buddy passed away. I would have to sell my fifth wheel, as I really don't use it that much either. Jody is not really "my" horse, so maybe I would have more of an interest, if I had one to call my own.
When you have had a really great horse for so many years, it's hard trying to decide if you want another one.
Here is one of the pictures the owner sent me. I just love loud color! Another one showed him standing on a tarp and her riding him.
Looks like they're definately marketing him as bombproof :~)
Hard decision, because it is a lot of work. Go look, and see :~)
