The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's so hot. I'm trying to get the back yard mowed, a little at a time.

Well, we're back from our ride with Rosie on her bike :~) Here she is at the trailhead :~)

And out on trail :~)

And Rosie waiting for us to get to the rest stop at the falls :~) She spent most of her time way ahead of us, waiting for us to get there. :~)

We did the 8 mile loop. LOTS of riders out today, we saw 3 big groups, one with 15 horses we had to find a spot to let pass, and a couple other groups on bikes.

Then Rosie carried the camera most of the way back :~)

Look at all those straight trees:)

How did Bay do with a bike ahead of him? I'm curious. I wouldn't think a bike would make that much difference. Am I wrong?

Did that give you any desire to trade your bike in on a horse?

No. It was an exercise. He did great. Sarah Lee was a little nervous on her right side at first. We worked with Walmart bags and a raincoat today.

He does fine with the bike in front. He wasn't bonded with it like he would have been another horse, but he looked for her when she had gotten too far ahead.

I haven't picked up the new pad(s) yet. It's an older fleece, It's not a great pad, it gets mashed pretty flat when it gets wet, but I doubled it up with another thin one, and it was fine for today, no rubs anywhere :~)

he looks at her back and bites air when I go to put the blanket on.She isn't sore and it doesn't hurt but she acts like she thinks it is

If anything, she's probably cinchy. I've had a couple of horses do that, one so bad that you had to muzzle her to get a saddle on her. The people that had her before us called her "Gaitor". And she held a grudge too. She'd wait until you weren't looking, and then Wham! she'd made a go at your side or shoulder, or wherever she could get. I ride a schoolmaster appy who is very cinchy and will bite air and clack her teeth together as soon as you put a saddle on her back, no matter how gentle you are with the girth.

Heh...it was neat seeing all the horses we did today...but bikes are a wee bit lower maintenance...

That's what I'm thinking. Some cowboy maybe rough with cinching? I don't but it's like anticipating getting a shot. They don't all hurt but you are prepared for it to:')
