The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I used to have dogs come and bark at me a lot when I used to ride the road alot... and usually could get them to back off by merely turning and facing them. 99% of dogs are all bluster when it comes to a horse.

Queen will turn to face a dog and chase it off with her head down. She looks like a cattle horse the way she will head them off. Blade prefers to try to stomp them with his front feet if they get in his way. Jake just ignores them but he has not been in a situation where he has had to defend himself.

Yeah, I was lucky. Right across the street. If you gotta limp in though....:') I'm not to happy with them right now anyway. I bought some storm stuff yesterday. When I put it up last night the light fluid was leaking. It was in the sack with the lighters. The package had saturated and they were wet. I wiped them off but I'm a little reluctant to spark um:')

The topic got off to guns but my post started out about pits. Mine take care of dogs too. One likes to chase them and the other likes to play soccer but this wasn't an ordinary dog. He was crazed. They scare me. I have seen the most gentleist suddenly turn. They will fight to the death. Our horses might as well have seen a cougar or something the way they were acting. They all chalked him up as "danger"

Good Morning.

Only going to be 78 today! That I can live with. 99% of the pasture is mowed. With this sunshine, the little bit of wet spots might dry up enough to finish. There is still some wood behind the barn where the tree fell down, that needs cleaned up also.

Estrogen, when you turn corners with a trailer, do not accelerate until the trailer is straight. The horses will be leaning when you turn and you sure don't want to throw them off balance. One horse I saw had that happen. He fell under the divider and broke his back.

Also make sure you make a wide enough turn with the truck so the trailer does not wind up in a ditch.

Close to 100 here today with a heat index of 102 to 105. Miserable. We got a few sprinkles last night but only enough to get the windshields dirty. I am SOOOO ready for the fall!

Good morning everyone. Got this from a friend; hope you all haven't read it already. You are on a horse, galloping at constant speed. On your right is a sharp drop-off, and on your left side is an elephant traveling at the same speed as you are. Directly in front of you is a galloping kangaroo and your horse is unable to overtake it. Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the kangaroo. What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation? If you do not know, scroll down to see the answer below. Get your drunk butt off the merry-go-round!

I went to Florence yesterday afternoon to get some Farrier's Formula and the thermometer on my Jeep said 101 degrees. It was so hot in the feed store that I could hardly breathe. I don't see how the guys who work there could stand it. But I guess if you are in it all day every day and don't get spoiled to the A/C like we do then you get used to it. I would hope that would be the case anyways. It's supposed to be about the same today. If it keeps this up then "Fall" is going to happen by the end of August. There won't be any leaves left on the trees after that.

How do I get paragraphs when I post a picture?

You key a "<" then a "P" then a ">" where you want the paragraph break to be, but you run it all together. I can't type it that way on this message though because it thinks I want a paragraph when I do that. To just go to a new line without a paragraph break you key "<" then "br" then ">" all together.

LOL :~D

You get Paragraphs by putting in the paragraph tag < p > (but with no spaces) at the start of each paragraph.

My shoer is coming today, but not till "evening". He made this arrangement with me when he was at the ride BBQ. Was originally supposed to be here this morning.... doesn't matter to us today :~)
