The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Without a doubt.

She does not want to miss one that may taste better.

But he's very coy about being on the furniture, and tries to get up without you noticing.

My old Setter has gotten to where she sleep so soundly she gets caught on the sofa if you get up in the middle of the night. She usually comes into the bedroom after the alarm goes of with a toy in her mouth. She loos so embarassed when she gets caught.

He liked to taste my coffee too. I always made sure that it was cool enough for him to taste and not burn his tounge. His mother was quite a unique cat herself. Thanks for giving him a good home when he needed one.

The hay that our feedstore has is bermuda and is green like that. I bought a bale last year when I went to that CTR. Harley emptied a hay net of it so fast that it worried me he'd make himself sick. Celia let me have some of the hay she had. It was good hay just not so rich. He ate it fine just not so fast.

Good Morning.

Ah, relief from the heat! 65 this morning. We had a few showers yesterday, but nothing major like some areas of Ohio.

I am going out of town tonight, so I won't be able to ping tomorrow morning. You all have a great weekend.

No, I haven't left yet, but the horse is saddled. We got just enough rain last night to make it very humid this morning.

Aren't you riding today?

Well you all have a good ride:)

I'm trying something new today. I've rode a few times with a lady at CTR's who has trained her horse to drink from a squirt bottle. Probably not really enough to keep the horse hydrated in extreme heat, but I bet the horse likes have a moist mouth. I think she even has Gatorade in the bottle. Anyway I've been looking for a bottle with a squirt top, that I could tie on somehow. Not many bottles have the squirt tops anymore, but Gatorade's did. It also had a narrowing towards the top that you could tie around and it wouldn't slip down.

Her horse actually turns around to get a drink as she is riding. I'll try that, but I imagine for a while I'll have to get off and try to get him to drink from it.

Heh... It'd work, and if they would do it, you could sure get at least some water in them.

I've thought before, of having a big syringe tube you could squirt water in if they really needed it.

He liked to taste my coffee too...

He almost got his butt in big trouble last night when Lee caught him sampling the cheeze dip he'd just made and set on the counter top. That's as mad as I've seen Lee get at one of the cats in a long time. He almost smacked him but he didn't. He just dipped out the part that had been licked and went on ate the rest. I had to laugh, although I had to try to keep it to myself, because Little B must've got some cheeze stuck to the roof of his mouth because he sat there on the chair for the longest time licking his lips and sticking his tongue out about 2 inches every time, trying to dislodge it. The little booger!

Uh, oh, Maybe he needs a time out room until after meal time. Meal preparation and dinner would be more enjoyable for all. : )

The two here, The Wrecking/Shredding crew, are nowhere near as vocal as Little B. They make up for it with nonstop action though. Was hoping they had an inside home to go to but that fell through. Argh!

Poland Spring water bottles have a squirt top too. I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for, but just thought that I would let you know. :-)

I've never seen Poland Spring water around here.

The bottle I have worked good, but I need to find a better way to hook it to my saddle. I had it hanging from the horn, but it gets in my way, and it bounced to much at the trot and lope, for me anyway, I don't think Harley noticed it.

He did seem to get the hang of at least getting his mouth moistened. I even tried it from the saddle and he did good. Alot runs back out, but he did alot of slurping so I'd think I got some in him:)

The flies were really bad today:(. I hate flies.

Flies around here are so bad in the summer, that if we do any trail riding at all, it's at a dead run. :-) Doesn't make it worth it.

Hmm.... Poland spring must be a strictly New England thing. But thinking about their jingle, "Poland Spring, What it Means to Be From Maine", it suddenly makes sense.... but I didn't think that it was. Marshmallow fluff is also something that you can only find in the Northeast. It's always interesting to find out what things are regional, and what aren't. For instance, we don't have a single Sonic restaurant around here.

I think she even has Gatorade in the bottle.

I had a bay mare "EVE" that would try to drink the Gatorade as you were drinking it. She loved it.

They make horn bags with bottle holders on each side. I will have to do a search and see where I saw it. Country Supply I think.

KV Vet actuall has them. I have been thinking of getting one. Also Wal Mart has fanny bags with water bottle holders that would work to.
