The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

There is a new one, AC, that is being advertised on tv recently. It is made by Mitsubishe and part of it is outside and the other inside and mounted on the wall. Seems like it is worth checking into.

68 plus change to fill my van up.

$80 plus change to fill my van! 2002 Dodge conversion van with 35 gal tank. Needless to say it spends most of its time in the driveway. I pefer my Mitsubishi Eclipse that gets 35 mpg but it is fast approaching 200,000 miles!

Our compressor is outside but the unit is in the attic.

$42.36 for 13.67 of diesel @3.099/gal...yikes!

If I had one of those super, heavy duty extension cords, I would sleep in the camper. The one I have will not run the A/C in there. Might have to sleep in the basement..

Never had A/C when I was a kid. Amazing how we get spoiled.

That is the normal way to install them in homes, I think. The attic unit is mounted on a tray if I remember correctly that water drains out of.

It's kind of mixed around here. Some put them in a closet in the hall. We put ours up to save space.

Do you have high humidity in your area? I was thinking it was more desert like with dry air.

My fig tree is loaded again this year. The birds are getting fat on the ripe ones.

Today isn't bad. We are in the 50's. Tomorrow it goes back up to 87%. My fig tree keeps hanging on. Just about the time I go to up root it, the darn thing starts blooming. My neighbor has a huge one. Don't know where he got it. Their house is only 2 years old and it is way over the fence and fruit hanging over in my yard. My Spanish is limited but the 1st chance I have an interpretor handy I'm going to ask. He has big trees everywhere.

About the same here but not looked yet to see what tomorrow will bring. It is still dry here even with a couple of light showers the past few days. Not a good year for hay at all.

This fig tree was a small shoot when I planted it. But it has done well without fertilizer or being watered.

Someone sent me a link for clear, lookout storm shutters. I didn't even know there was such a thing. Ever heard of them?

Not heard of them but will bump this for you. Were they more expensive than normal storm shutters?

I opened my back door this morning to let Susie out, and there were a couple of coons out there eating the bird seed on the ground. They went up a tree, and are sitting up there watching:). Coons are so cute. I'm wondering if they were attracted to the water in the bird bath. There isn't much around...I put a pan of water on the ground, and some more seed. I really don't want them around because of the dogs. I'm hoping they'll come down and disapper while I'm out riding. I can't get a picture of them now, they are too far up the tree.If I'm here when they come down, I will.

Can coons move thru the trees like squirrels? They don't look like they could. I think they will have to come down.

Becky
