The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I still use a box fan. I turn it away , if I get cold but it must run for me to sleep:')

A box fan is a must, all year round. In a pinch (AC quits) it can be used as a window fan. This summer I have kept the thermostat at 77*. Any cooler and my feet feel like they are frozen, poor circulation.

A box fan is our only cooling up here, though in the heat of the day, it doesn't seem to do a lot of good, even some air movement is better than nothing.

Box fan in the window with the sprinkler running right outside seems to do some good... the sprinkler cools the air a little on the way in :~)

I think we should market Cyn as a horse that can play the dead fallen horse in all those medieval battle sequences.

Must be the hay! That is great she feels comfortable enough to stay down while you are right next to her.

My horse used to do that only she would snore so loud that leaves fell off nearby trees.

I used to have a hrose that snored to. The first time I heard her do it I thought she was dying and ran down there, she just looked up at me like "What is wrong with you waking me up like that!"

Bad news, it's shot. A salesmen is coming tomorrow to give me an estimate on a new A/C unit and furnace. $$$$$$. This unit is over 23 years old, so it's about time. At least with a new one, it will be more energy efficient. There is a ceiling fans in every room, but the computer/gun room. I did pick up another fan today, and with the other box fan, plus a really nice breeze, we should be ok. It's 95 with heat index of 102!

One good thing, it got me out of the house today, now my camper is washed and cleaned so nice. Just turned the hose on me, when I got too hot.

Beloww 77 and ours freezes up. We have ran tests:') We set it at 80. That's comfortable and keeps the bills down. I do like it a little cooler at night though. Hair , that's a great idea about the sprinkler. I had not thought of that. Our electricity goes out a lot around here. I'll have to remember that.

Beloww 77 and ours freezes up.

Ours freezes up below 76. We were told that we had a very small freon leak and that was why it froze up. Would cost hundreds to find the leak so we keep it at 76-78 and have it recharged every couple of years.

Gas is going up. You think they know we are fixing to start filling up? Kind of ironic. At the same place, you can get 1 gallon of regular for 2.89 or 2 hot dogs, a bag of chips and a soda for 2.19. Kind of puts things in perspective:')

We probably need to get ours serviced too but hey ...it still works with a little tweaking:')

Bay'll sometimes stay down when I walk up but she's completely without inhibitions about it. She'll drop and roll right in front of us when we turn her out.

That was the same reaction my horse made when I checked on her. "What the hay did you wake me for?"

Sorry to hear that. 23 years is a long time for an AC to last though. Hope the replacement is less expensive than you expect.

It should not freeze up at all, something is not right. Have you checked the drain?

Just got my monthly gasoline fuel bill today. All I can say is Wow!

A friend stopped by this afternoon. He was driving a Toyota Prius, (sp?). I think it is electric as it was quiet when he drove off. It looks like an upside down bar of soap. (I did not say that in front of him though) : )

I donno. Not my job. We have an invisible red line to the garage. I ask questions and enter at my own risk. (rolling eyes) When it freezes up he fixes it. He messes with the drain too. He says it's just too small for the house and it's my fault because I keep making it bigger and his for putting it in the attic. My fixer-upper always gets it running though. I'm in to financing. My job is to buy a new one when it finally dies :')
