The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

And one last one with me and Bob in it. I don't get those very often, so even though it's blurry and kinda dark I thought I'd post it anyways...

...would cigarette tobacco be good too? This is a new one on me.

Yeah, any kind of tobacco, or even snuff. Just wet it with something and wrap it somehow. The duct tape worked in the absence of anything else. I guess it's an old folk remedy coz I've heard it all my life. When I was little and one of us kids would get stung, the first thing the adults would want to do is get a cigarette from somebody and spit on it and put it on there. The old farts kept telling me I was gonna have to chew my tobacco first (since that was the kind it was) before I put it on there but I told 'em that there was no way. I'd let somebody else chew it and spit it on me first. They got a big laugh outta that. I had enough sweat on me that I don't think it needed wetting at all, but I ended up dipping it in the creek a little bit before I put it on there. Then of course I had tobacco juice running down my hand the rest of the day, but I didn't mind. The smell kinda reminded me of my Grand Daddy. It took the swelling down pretty quick but it doesn't do much for the pain. Can't have everything I guess.

I've been lazy this weekend end and carried over until today. When I was going trail riding I was out there about ever day practicing. I need to get back into my routine. Today I babysat though. I took then to a place for lunch where they could feed turtles and then they wanted to go ride horses. We went out but it was just too darn hot. I'm going to try again in a bit.

I saw some rider and horse face mask hoods you can carry, if you need them. They look funny, like bee keepers but if they work...?

I know what you mean. That's what I like about doing CTR's. It gives me the incentive to get out and ride. If it wasn't for that, I'm afraid I could talk myself out of it every morning real easy:)

I finally had time to let all your pictures load:) You had quite a group. Great pictures. Were they all gaited horses?

Yes we did:) He brought his girlfriend. Seems funny calling her that at the age they are:) I don't know how they do it, keeping this 1300 mile relationship going for all these years, but it works for them. He comes in town twice a year, and she goes out there for a couple of weeks around Christmas. Been doing that since he moved there 12 years ago. He tells me privately he likes it that way, I guess she does too...I've only gotten to know her the last few years. He didn't use to bring her around the family get togethers, but now that I know her I like her.

Fascinating... I guess they never get tired of each other and are always looking forward to the next visit!

Relationships are always good when you are on 'vacation'.

I guess:). They seem really happy when they are together. They were telling us how when she is at his place for those 2 weeks, that they don't do much other then she cooks for him, and once in while they will go catch a plane and fly somewhere spend a night and come home. She gets to fly free, and she flies him free because her husband, (he's dead now), worked for the airline....I'm not sure how it works, but they fly free.

Anyway, we had a fun visit. He's always got good stories about things that go on where he works...Vegas is an interesting place, but I wouldn't want to live there, but even when he was just a kid, he always wanted to go there to work in a casino. He's a crap table pit boss at the Luxor.

I love to play craps, but I could afford it better if I did it as a job... at least it's not my money :~)

He always loved playing it, but now he says he very rarely does, only when people come to visit. I swear he see's family members and old friends more then I do:)

Did you get all the SaddleMoot pictures you want downloaded? I'm getting ready to do some server housekeeping, but don't want to delete them prematurely.
