The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

But maybe that's just me and my fidgety horse....

No, a lot of them are like that. So excited to be someplace different. After a bit, they settle down and get down to business.

We let the horses out into the pasture... they'd been relegated to the back forty since Becky left, and when they're back there, they don't run and exercise like they do when they have big open spaces.

So they got out and ran some, and since I thought they would, I brought the camera out :~D

Cyn was running well today... sometimes she can move, and some times she just looks like a tangle of feet. :~)

In this picture I think the pony looks like the image on the cover of the book about "Phar Lap"

Bay hasn't had any Bute since you were here. I was wanting to watch him move... He's feeling good anyway.

Here they are running out... and that big pile of lumber is the mess Cyn made of that little jump we set up when you were here, Becky... Caught the pony leaping over the whole show rather than go around it.

And that's it for now, I liked the back-lighting in this one.

Heh, gettin Pony to park out would make your feet drag the ground on both sides! She's so cute when she does that. I guess it's her version of "I don't know what you're talking about so here's a pancake on my head" but instead of a pancake, it's "so here a parkout".

That's exactly what it is! And she demonstrated that when Becky was here too. I don't think we took any pictures of playing with pony, but we did it.

She was so cute doing it. Watching her, made me feel sorry for her, she just had this look about her that she was trying so hard to do "something" for you...just to me it made her look rather pitiful. I guess because we never asked her to do it, but she just did it so well, so immediately. LOL...probably the human in me reading way more into her "expression" then is really there. But it was heart warming and heart breaking all at the same time.

Good afternoon, I feel like I'm starting another day here. Just woke up from a "2hour" snooze on the couch, coffee is not helping yet...Jeez this 6:30 raising and getting on a horse is killing me:) The heat didn't help much today, boy it was/is still hot.

I feel the same way about it when she does it. She's trying really hard to do something 'good'.

Good pictures. Pony jumping all by herself, she tries so hard:)

It does look like Bay is feeling great. That's good. I was really going to feel bad if he had trouble after I left. I know you guys probably wouldn't have done that 15 miler expect that I was there...

Wow, everybody looks really good. All nice and shiny. I love to see them ripping and snorting like that. Mine do that sometimes when I bring ol' Tennessee out of his dry lot to do a few hand-walking laps around the pasture. They'll see us from across the field and come charging across and do a 'fly-by' with tails and heels flying. Sometimes they settle down pretty quick after that, but sometimes they race around for a pretty good while. It's kinda fun to watch.

LOL...that's exactly how I feel, and having to get going twice in one day is not fun.

Thanks ladies for complimentin' the stock :~)

I had a lot of confidence in Bay in the weeks prior to you coming, Becky, and I felt pretty good about taking him that distance. I'd do it again, I think he handled it as well, or better than he did last year. His feet, anyhow ;~)

Funny thing is, when I was talking about doing it again with Bob, it was ecurbh who cringed at having to go that far again, he likes a nice two hour ride :~)

And Bob hasn't been on his horse this year... Kai, the big grey appy, just had some melanomas removed from his chest, and until that healed he wouldn't go because it interfered with his breastcollar. And he's been grieving his mule and otherwise distracted... So he doesn't think Kai can go 15 and volunteered us to just mark the 8.

It's not the old horse keeping us down this year :~)

You were probably dead-on in reading her expressions. I think we all know horses well enough, whether they're our own or somebody else's to know what they're thinking a lot of the time.

The old man this time, huh:)

Well once again, thanks for the wonderful ride, especially given it wasn't your normal routine:). I've told everyone here that I felt like the whole time I was there you guys were thinking of nothing but making sure I had a good time...I really appreciated the hospitality

Here's a nother couple of pics I took... Of Cyn getting into it with the neighbor dog, through the fence...

And then Bay coming in and getting involved... getting between the big bad wolf and his ladies :~)

It's when he trots in a nice collected and forward frame and gait like that, that I can tell his feet don't hurt. He looks like the dressage horse I once thought I could make him into. :~)

I'm curious, when yours rip around the pasture, are they gaiting? or do they gallop? I'm afraid I've never seen a loose gaitin' horse.

I agree... pictures, or better yet, movies!
